In Sep 2023, Ambala Divisional Commissioner Renu Phulia, IAS, removed a 20-year-old stay order on the sale and purchase of a 14 acres land parcel near Panchkula.

A few months later, her husband (also an IAS) and her son bought 5 acres from the same land for 42 lakhs, whereas the circle rate for it was 2.25 crores and the market rate around 6 crores.

A 6 crores worth of land was bought for 42 lakhs by the family of the same IAS who had removed the 20 years old stay order on the sale of that very land. Inquiry has been ordered today.

I'm sure Renu ji, too, would have said, "I want to change society, remove poverty and contribute to nation-building," during her UPSC interview.

Bench : From the result sheet, while the petitioner got 12 votes, the 8 votes which were treated as invalid wrongly, were validly passed in favour of the petitioner. Adding the 8 votes would make his tally 20 votes. The 8th respondent on the other hand polled 16 votes.
