๐จ Turkey is aggressively attacking Somaliland at the UN.
At a routine Human Rights Council session, Turkey went out of its way to attack Somaliland's sovereignty, relations with Israel, and boast about arming Somalia's army.
Turkey is now:
1. Aggressively attacking Somaliland at international organisations.
2. Arming and militarising Somalia.
3. Supporting terror militia within Somalilandโs borders.
How can Somaliland assert its statehood while hosting foreign entities that actively campaign against its existence?
What are we waiting for?
Where is the red line before Turkey is told to pack up?

Somaliland is older than 40 of todayโs African states.
If Kosovo and South Sudan could be recognized as independent states over the last 18 years, Somaliland should also be recognized as a sovereign country.
British Somaliland became independent on 26 June 1960 as the State of Somaliland and was recognized by some 35 countries, including the five permanent members of the UN Security Council. Five days later, it voluntarily entered into a union with the former Italian Trust Territory of Somalia. The legal instruments of that union were flawed: the two sides signed different texts, and the official Act of Union was adopted retroactively by the new National Assembly in 1961.
A fact-finding mission of the African Union concluded in 2005 that the union "was never ratified and also malfunctioned when it came into operation from 1960 to 1990", making Somaliland's case "historically unique and self-justified in the political history of Africa". Somaliland thus claims the exact colonial borders of the former British Protectorate - the same uti possidetis juris principle that the AU itself considers fundamental. Failed unions have been dissolved before (United Arab Republic, Mali Federation, Senegambia).
According to the 1933 Montevideo Convention (widely considered customary international law), a state requires a permanent population, a defined territory, an effective government and the capacity to conduct foreign relations. Somaliland has complied in practice on all three of these requirements since 1991. Time for recogniti.on of Somaliland!
Watching @AliOmarMP call Somaliland "never a country" is absurd. On June 26, 1960, Somaliland broke colonial chains with the British, the same way every African country was born. If that process makes a country everywhere else on the continent, it makes one in Somaliland too.
@Lion_Roar_1@Abdulrahma23452 Somaliland first, Somaliland only, Our nation, Our interests, Our future.
I will ignore the whole world and Everything else comes second ๐คซ
A โSomali Republicโ never existed. The former Italian Administration of Somalia (Amministrazione della Somalia Italiana) became the Republic of Somalia upon independence.
There was never any entity officially called the โSomali Republic.โ That name was a domestic political fiction; all legal and international documents consistently referred to the Republic of Somalia hence why the current manifestation is the federal republic of Somalia.
When new states are created, they normally adopt a new or distinct name. In Somaliaโs case, however, no entirely new state was formed. What occurred was the annexation and illegal absorption of Somaliland into the existing Republic of Somalia.
#Somaliland
To all my friends from Somaliland.
As a daughter of the Horn, deeply involved in helping Somaliland to gain recognition internationally, I want to congratulate H.E. President @Abdirahmanirro, the Govโt & people of #Somaliland on the 66th anniversary of independence from the #UK๐ฌ๐ง .
Your history, resilience, sacrifices& achievements are all but a model for the region!
Youโve already become an important friend and ally to Israel. And that matters more that you can ever imagine.

This is the official Republic of Somalia Decreto Legge 30 agosto 1960, n. 4.
Does this document recognize 26 June as Somalilandโs Independence Day as a public holiday? Quote the exact relevant part from Article 2.
Is it true On the day this document on official holidays was written there was no de jure union as no bilateral documents were signed. Five months later a unilateral retroactive law was passed in Mogadishu which in international law had no legal effect over all the claimed territory ie Somaliland.
What if I told you that Somaliland and Israel had relations over 3000 years ago?
As Somaliland opens its new embassy in Jerusalem, the world thinks this is a modern geopolitical alliance.
It isnโt.
It's a revival ๐งต๐
By June 26 1960 when the State of Somaliland gained independence & recognition ~14 of today's 54 African countries had independence (10 pre-1960: Liberia South Africa Egypt Ethiopia Libya Sudan Morocco Tunisia Ghana Guinea + Cameroon Togo Mali Federation Madagascar in 1960).
~40 countries (74%) had not yet received independence. Most gained it later in 1960 or after.
The โAct of Unionโ was a joke not worth the paper it was written on.
It wasnโt a treaty between two countries. It was Somaliaโs domestic Law No. 5, rammed through in January 1961 a full six months after the so-called union on 1 July 1960.
They literally tried to pass a law retroactively to legalize something that never properly happened. ๐
Basic law 101: you canโt magic a union into existence by backdating a domestic bill.
No joint treaty. No mutual ratification. Just unilateral Somalian paperwork pretending to be legal.
This wasnโt union. It was legal fiction.
This is an open and shut case for the experts at @mccuejury
Happy restoration of sovereignty day.
May this day remind us of the sacrifices made to reach where we are, and may we never lose sight of our goal.

Somaliland
After 66 years, the Republic of Somaliland rises once more to the mountaintop.
From the jubilant streets of Hargeisa on that historic Sunday, June 26, 1960 when bonfires lit the hills, fireworks lit the sky, and crowds danced to mark the end of 73 years of British rule to this very moment, the spirit of Somaliland has never been broken.
It has been a rugged six-decade journey. Thirty-one years of oppression and suffering under Somalia culminated in the triumphant reclamation of sovereignty on May 18, 1991. For 35 long years that followed, while the world looked away, Somaliland stood alone โ unrecognized, yet unbowed.
Lectured by the European Union and the United Nations to surrender their dream, even as billions poured into instability elsewhere, the people of Somaliland chose a different path: quiet determination, relentless rebuilding, and unshakable faith in their own destiny.
Today, the Republic of Somaliland stands as the most peaceful, stable, and democratic beacon in the Horn of Africa. It is a living testament to three decades of self-reliance, rule of law, and a visionary populace.
Tomorrow, May 18, marks the crowning achievement of generations of Somalilanders who refused to be forgotten. The isolation ends.
This is not merely re-recognition. This is restoration. This is justice. This is the fulfillment of a sacred promise kept alive through fire and faith.
