BREAKING: Puntland State and the United States have signed a bilateral cooperation agreement to bolster counterterrorism operations and maritime security, the Puntland presidency said on Sunday.

Under the newly signed agreement, the U.S. will expand its military base in Bosaso to enhance counterterrorism capabilities and safeguard regional waters, according to a statement released by the Puntland presidency.

Discussions also focused on deepening security cooperation between the regional administration and Washington, specifically in combating militant groups and securing key shipping lanes in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
