When will a child of nobody finally be allowed to become somebody in Nigeria - not through connections, not through favour, not through influence, but through ability, character and hard work?

I see it. And every time, one thought comes back: “How I wish that were me.” Not because I hate them. Because I know what it feels like to lose an opportunity before you even get the chance to prove yourself.

Imagine a country where your own parents have seen the system for so long that their first instinct is to ask who you know not what you can do & the most painful part? I see people with connections enter the institution, move forward and live the opportunity I once dreamed about.

“Do you have a connection?”

Read that again.

Not Are you qualified?
Not Are you capable?
Not Are you willing to work for it?

Do you know somebody? That question says more about Nigeria than any politician’s speech ever could.
