Istanbul's iconic Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge was illuminated in the blue colours of the Somali flag on Independence Day, in a breathtaking gesture of friendship, brotherhood, and solidarity between Türkiye and Somalia. The bridge, one of the most recognisable landmarks spanning the Bosphorus, joined Ankara's Atakule Tower in lighting up for Somalia on 1 July.
Türkiye did not just send a message this Independence Day. It lit its skyline with it.

Ankara's iconic Atakule Tower was illuminated in celebration of Somalia's Independence Day, in a gesture of brotherhood and solidarity from Türkiye to the Somali people. The display, shared by the Somali Embassy in Türkiye, adds Ankara's skyline to a growing list of landmarks around the world that marked 1 July alongside Somalia.
From the KICC in Nairobi to Atakule in Ankara, the world celebrated with Somalia on its 66th Independence Day.
