Ohashi Hirai's Coming-of-age Sport Drama Manga "THE DAYS OF DIAMOND" (Diamond no Kouzai) will be receiving TV ANIME ADAPTATION
📖 A young boy who crushed other players’ dream due to his natural gift finally finds joy in his baseball life at a local team that plays purely for fun
Overall, I'll probably rate this show a 7/10? I think it's enjoyable if you can suspend your disbelief and are okay with doomed yaoi with a side of hetgem. Sure, it should be the other way round (hetgem with a side of doomed yaoi), but please understand Mizoe Yosuke exists...
But even if Yosuke couldn't move on (and by the end of the show, I don't think he has), I felt like the show was also saying that more than moving on, it's even more important that people continue to live in the face of grief.
Grief is like a process. At least this time Yosuke only has a finger instead of an entire hand. Maybe if he keeps at it, he'll be able to move on from Seiroku in due time, hopefully without opening more sinkholes next time.
Even though personally I believe it would be healthier to be able to move on eventually, I feel like the reason why I wanted Yosuke to be able to move on from Seiroku is because his grief is destructive both to himself and the people around him.
At first, I was flabbergasted he still kept a finger from the Seiroku automaton. But then, sitting on the ending a bit more, I realized even though that illusionary Seiroku told him to live on without him, moving on isn't something as easy as flipping a switch.
Implicitly, I assume the reason he is going overseas is to lie low after presumably a big scandal broke out after what happened with the steam engines and sinkhole. Maybe he goes to visit Paris in Seiroku's stead...?
I want to know! Was there backlash from Kyoto high society after Yosuke broke off the engagement with Inako in that sort of manner! Was there consequences he faced for monopolizing Kyoto's steam engines and being in charge of the factory on which a giant sinkhole opened!!
Meanwhile, Yosuke... After sitting on the ending for like half an hour, the only issue I have is the lack of explicit consequences he faced. To be honest, this has been a recurring issue. This guy does the craziest things and has been able to get by without consequences.
Actually, I think Inako's development throughout the show was my favourite. It's just wonderful to see how she went from being trapped in her father's cage to her being a Meiji-era metal vocalist to how she went to rescue Kihachi in the finale.
