Turns out building software and building a sustainable business are two completely different games
The product can keep running. If it grows, cool. If it dies, that’s fine too
I’m going back to being an engineer. Sometimes the best feature you can ship is your own resignation😂
Spent almost 2 years building a multistreaming SaaS.
Built native Android and iOS streaming, hardware encoding, distributed infrastructure, billing, and a ridiculous amount of other shit.
Got real users. Got paying customers.
Tonight I shipped Castream 6.0.
Most stable, reliable, and polished version I’ve ever built.
And I’ve decided it’s probably my last major release.
Not because the product failed technically, but because I realized I don’t want to run a SaaS company anymore.
15 years ago I came to SF as a 21-year-old dev to build cool software. Today, my code runs a giant truck full of poop. Beautiful. 💩
I wrote up the full, chaotic story of how I stopped interviewing for jobs to build this full-time.
Read it here:

How a totaled Tesla and a random Uber passenger led me to build an AI platform for poop 💩
A short story about accidentally becoming a telecom provider for the septic industry. 🧵👇
#buildinpublic
Driving down the 101, I pointed at a giant pumping truck and told my daughter: "If you call the number on that truck, Harry will answer."
(Harry is the AI using the @ElevenLabs 'Fierce Warrior' voice she picked out 😂)
We completely replaced their fragmented legacy SaaS tools.
Today, the platform handles dispatch, payments, live GPS tracking, and AI customer support for 5 tenants across 2 countries.
Turns out I'm a telecom provider now. Nobody warned me about the regulations. 💀
Someone once told me: "Don’t build it. Sell it first." So I did.
I spent two months building non-stop. I wired up @twilio for the complex call routing/telecom backbone and plugged in @ElevenLabs to build an autonomous AI receptionist.
One day, I picked up a guy in Mountain View who owned a local septic and portable restroom company.
He described his manual nightmare: calls, texts, dispatch, "where is the truck?"
I immediately saw the whole operation as a software problem.
Earlier this year, a guy rear-ended and totaled my new Tesla. I had to get a Hertz rental.
I was building AI bots from home, feeling isolated, and desperately needed to talk to humans. So, I turned on the Uber app that came with the rental.
