@kjreid95@AndrewKingClim @SafariPenguin @lindenashcroft I basically never watch videos, they're so much slower as a source of info than just reading text and require your phone to make noise, so tiktok is a hard no for me 😆
You know it's time to move to the other place. I'm trying to get all the Australian Climate scientists in one place to make it even easier to build the network back up. Come join us! @AndrewKingClim@kjreid95 @SafariPenguin @lindenashcroft

I'm popping onto this site occasionally to see what's happening at #amos2024. But you should all come over to BlueSky, and help bring back the good old days of science twitter. Then I will never have to open this benighted website again😆
@RogerDargaville I'm sure it will be a fantastic conference. Always sad to miss out, but hopefully at least a few people will see my talk/posters and reach out. I look forward to hearing about how the DEI events go.
Farewell Adelaide and #AMOS2022. Thanks for the awesome science, the great conversations, the beautiful weather, and my flight leaving on time! Can't wait until #AMOS2024!!
I basically never come here anymore, but if any climate scientists want invites for the blue place, send me a DM. It's still growing, but the vibe is a lot nicer!
This winter's waves in Sydney were officially the lowest on record according to the Sydney waverider buoy . While this has been bad news for surfers, its the reason we've seen our beaches grow up to 60 metres over past 12 months. A result of the recent #ElNino
@JacquelynGill Not sure I count as early career anymore, but if no students or earlier scientists end up replying I would be interested. I miss what science twitter used to be like.
With all the current discussion about ethical behaviour when publishing academic papers, a reminder that success as a scientist is *not* defined by the number of Nature or Science papers you have.
Science Twitter! What are your favourite picture books about natural history? My 4yo is obsessed with Grandmother Fish and now wants books about evolution and Neanderthals and Lucy and what animals dominated the earth before the dinosaurs and related topics.
Are you interested in learning about modelling a Southern Ocean Extra-Tropical Cyclone 17 meters significant wave height storm? Have a look at our recent paper on @JGROceans https://t.co/UjFSjWKZ9b
The bias is prestigious journals is on the side of being newsworthy, risky, timely (JWST stuff), unexpected weirdness (phosphine on Venus). They often aren’t the best science but “interesting.” This isn’t the best model (and not a formula someone just found out) but it’s not a problem with climate or political narrative.
@RogerDargaville Impressive! I think my max is 3 as first author, but I hadn't thought about how many I co-authored. I definitely gave 3 talks at ICSHMO, although one of those was invited.
regardless of where and how you code, this is a super fun guide explaining how computers work!
i love these sorts of articles because it doesn't "gatekeep" you with all the jargons (CPU cache lines! page fault!) and instead it actually explains them in simple terms.
Very happy (but also self conscious!) to be featured in a CSIRO Promo video. The production team did a great job making me look and sound good 😊
