So ironic that I have been so busy with work lately that I only managed to start reading "The Slow Professor" more than a month after I got it ๐ We really need to take a step back in Academia and prioritize quality over crazy quantities! #AcademicTwitter@AcademicChatter
You have to fight for your place in academia at every single turn. Every degree, every thesis, every journal, every placement, every job application. Every single step. Itโs exhausting.
Another WOW Academia fact showing that we need to find new ways to evaluate a researchers work. Completely agree with this and I know several groups that include important authors that did not directly contributed to the paper just to increase acceptance chances @AcademicChatter
My father did cell biology in Ecuador and longed to publish in SCIENCE. Never could pull it off. I am in US academia. This is my third publication in SCIENCE. I do no science. Location and networking explain epistemological authority, not competence.
Are you also tired of discussing which author to include and at which order? I have a crazy idea that citations should all be with number instead of the first-author last name, that the order should be alphabetical and that the contribution description should be more important.
So important! If we could, as a community, just slow down and prioritize being healthy, I bet scientific output would just become better. Now we publish many insignificant things just to get our numbers up and compete with others doing the same #AcademicTwitter@AcademicChatter
Good luck Cristina! That is a very noble vision and we wish you all the best with it. That is exactly what we want for Academia, that everyone gets the support they need! #AcademicTwitter#AcademicMentalHealth@AcademicChatter
I have been promoted to full Professor. I am the first Latina full professor in the history of the UConn school of social work. My vision for what is next is clear: to raise up the academic mothers, doctoral students, minority scholars, and all those on this path, to success.
Super excited to start my new reading! I think it will confirm my theory that the academic community should just take a step back, focus on quality over quantity, and become happier people (and better researchers)! #AcademicTwitter@AcademicChatter
We feel you, Amy! That is why we advocate for more postdoc and Junior positions directly hired and paid by Universities. No more of these project-paid jobs that only give you a couple of years of certainty! @AcademicChatter#AcademicTwitter
Such a nice initiative! We hope you succeed in disseminating this and then perhaps Academia will take a step back from all the craziness and remember what is really important: healthy and equilibrated people! #MentorFirst
Excited to launch #MentorFirst, an initiative to improve mentoring in academic labs and impact the next generation of researchers! Take the pledge, show your support, and review best mentoring practices at https://t.co/jRUEEVEwmh. RT for a chance to win some #MentorFirst swag.
A truly "Wow Academia" fact ๐ฑ How to solve this? Universities could start hiring more postdocs to do actual research instead of just hiring the professor/researcher combo and also create some more fixed Junior positions. What do you think? #AcademicChatter#AcademicTwitter
Every year number of PhD admissions are increasing so the PhD fees. But, the funny thing is academic positions to absorb these PhDs are comparatively reducing or kept vacant or given to someone who is close to 70 yrs. @AcademicChatter
