@astrospeccion Again, it could be argued (perhaps wrongly) the WSH was used because there were no available tables of houses. The fact is that we don’t have enough evidence to reach this conclusion with any certainty. Right now people are reaching conclusions based on a lot of uncertain data.
@pwatsonastro@astrospeccion Indeed. I use the tropical zodiac for similar reasons. My argument still is that people are making define conclusions on matters that carry a considerable deal of uncertainty, and choosing the arguments that fit their preferences (it is understandable, but can be misleading).
@astrospeccion People are expressing very strong opinions on a matter which is not a done deal. And of which most do not have enough knowledge to begin with. So we all should be less definitive on this matter. There are always surprises.
@astrospeccion So have systems like Alcabitius. So again, not a good argument. As to the Zodiac question, despite the quotations you made it is not that easily dismissible, since there is evidence of its use up to the Middle Ages in the same context used to reinforce the WSH arguments.
@CosMirror I’m certain they would not discuss it in the same manner we do today. Except for perhaps some early modern authors this discussion on houses calculation is not that central. There is a lot of anachronistic thinking in all this debate.
Houlding’s presentation makes historical claims in order to argue against whole-sign houses. As an historian of astrology I will not be associated, implicitly or explicitly, with any of the shoddy historical opinions presented in that talk. They are unsound and unsubstantiated.
@chrisbrennan7 It is a very I interesting passage, and very informative historically. However, does it hold in practice, or is it just a theoretical supposition? I have seen similar affirmations in the past and tested it in some charts. It doesn’t hold every time.
