Jerry Stackhouse era at Vanderbilt was a masterclass in doing more with less. ⚓️🏀

Taking over a program that went 0–18 in the SEC, Coach Stackhouse navigated an unprecedented "perfect storm" of institutional and structural hurdles to rebuild Vandy Basketball.

The Challenges:
•Academic Bar: Zero flexible pathways for transfers. Grads needed a 3.0+ just to get in the door.

•The NIL Gap: In 2023, the program had <$80k in NIL. By 2024, it was still <$475k—while SEC rivals were spending millions.

•Roster Luck: Losing lottery pick Aaron Nesmith to injury in the 1st SEC game of 2020 derailed a projected NCAA/NIT season.

The Results (Despite the Odds):

✅ 2023 SEC Coach of the Year
✅ 41 wins over two seasons ('22 & '23)
✅ 4th Place SEC Finish (2023)
✅ Back-to-back NIT Quarterfinals
✅ 8 postseason wins—winning when it matters most in March.

It wasn't until 2025 & 2026 that NIL/Rev Share finally scaled to $4.5M and $8.5M, along with new academic pathways like the Nashville University School partnership.

Stackhouse built the foundation and proved he could win at the highest level without the modern tools his peers took for granted.
