This is a video of Hurricane Dorian in 2019. It had the exact same wind speeds that Melissa had at landfall. Watch after the 10-minute mark. This is what they would have experienced.

Could there have been a disconnect between winds measured by the planes and the winds experienced at ground level? I understand video mostly hasn’t yet made it out of the area where the eye wall came ashore, but video from Black River on that side and from Montego Bay on the north side showed a serious hurricane, but not Andrew-level destruction.
