I wrote about a special film! Pamela was a trailblazing documentary maker, and I hope you take a look! I included links to the doc and where to find more info !✨

Lynn Hsu talks about her art supplies & drawing process in this week’s Case! Happy to hear her mention the importance of posture & getting fresh air!

I asked the legendary Victoria Roberts if she wanted to ruminate on her foray into animation & what she had to say was absolutely stunning! For instance, she left school at 16 to paint for Hanna-Barbera!

Special thanks to Dan Misdea for sharing about his art supplies & drawing process! Be sure to check out his children’s book, out this week! He also mentions a tool that hasn’t been featured on this blog before, even though I’ve interviewed 100s of folks!

Was going to post this last week, but Dan’s publishing date for his new book was for this week! I was fascinated he switched from digital to traditional tools, so I asked him to elaborate, & you can read why in the quote image below! ✨

Here is audio from the interview I did with Sam Gross where he describes the difference between “drawing funny” & “funny drawing.” He was so brilliant & unpretentious.

We went to lunch together at least a dozen times & he’d just be talking smack & telling stories. There’s Sid Harris, & Mort Gerberg. I don’t know what to say. This hurts.
Found this picture of Sam Gross & Mort Gerberg at lunch years ago. Sam's daughter and I were going "they look just like a movie--we gotta take pictures!” Sam was bigger than the movies. He was an absolute cartooning legend.
He was always so generous & kind to me throughout the years. Truly a great man. I interviewed him a couple years back & it was just a joyful experience. I don’t know how to process this, this is devastating

Sam Gross was exceptionally talented & successful, but also exceptionally kind. The 1st time we met, about a decade ago at 4 Times Sq in the old offices of The New Yorker, he invited me to lunch w the gang & even drew me a map to make sure I’d find the restaurant. I was nobody!
