Them: 🤔 "I don't know where to start with accessibility..."
Me: 🙂 "Start with empathy. Start by listening to the real-life experiences of people with disabilities and striving to understand what using your product is really like for them."
A few hours ago, Twitter laid off its entire Accessibility Experience team. This is sad not only because so many lost their jobs, but because so many more around the world may lose their voice. https://t.co/pj7dRkJwCp
@DannPetty This is so needed, the educating on hard skills, soft skills, conflict management, all the stuff that seems to slip through the cracks. Wishing you lots and lots of success with this @DannPetty
In every #GAAD talk I’ve done I quote @mattmay: “In any org some people need to know *a lot* about accessibility but *everyone* needs to know a little.” What are your favorite take-aways from #a11y talks?
It's a high holiday for us #A11y loving folks, it's #GAAD#GAAD2021 🎉 Did you know that can make your tweets more accessible by adding ALT text to your images and capitalizing the words in your hashtags? Every little bit counts!
My thoughts on CSS frameworks are as follows:
Start with semantic HTML, then layer in only what is necessary to create performant, accessible, inclusive experiences.
And don't belittle or bully others in the process.
@ScopicEngineer I have been feeling a lot of the same, my schedule doesn't always allow for tweeting at peak times lately so have not been active on here as much!
You wouldn't plant a seed and then dig it up every few minutes to see if it has grown. So why do you keep questioning yourself, your hard work and your decisions? Have patience, stop overthinking and keep watering your seeds.
below is a list of common accessibility issues that show up in design + code. thanks for the info @annaecook!

I'm going to keep reminding people that "Rutgers" gets mistaken for rockers, ruckers, ruckus, workers, rappers, wrappers, and Rockies (and so much more) until people stop asking if they can just get away with automated captions. #a11y
i think the most painful thing i’ve ever been told is that because i’m a woman i shouldn’t go out into public speaking. that my voice isn’t needed/is haram(?). being a poc woman w a physical disability is all the more reason for me to speak up.. it’s always men saying this too
