Crazy story at yesterdays @Mets game - Guy in section 121 had a heart attack and his wife started frantically yelling for help or a doctor or nurse to come over - One random guy in the section who said he was neither started doing chest compressions and saved the mans life. Eventually paramedics showed up to take over and assist the fallen man. The hero went back to his seat, sat down and watched the rest of the game with zero fanfare or attention. He just wanted to watch the Mets win. When the game ended he walked out like nothing had happened. Don't know his name but he saved a mans life and is a hero.
A Gen Z was negotiating salary.
During the discussion, HR said,
“Work from home has many advantages.”
Gen Z listened.
HR continued,
“You save on transport.
Lunch.
Traffic.
Fuel.
Work clothes.
You get more time with family.”
Gen Z nodded.
Then asked,
“And what does the company save?”
The room went quiet.
- No argument.
- No pushback.
- Just a question.
HR hesitated.
Gen Z continued,
“Wi-Fi.
Electricity.
Office rent.
Water.
Cleaning.
Security.”
- More silence.
- No arrogance.
- No entitlement.
Just math.
That’s when HR realized something.
Gen Z doesn’t see WFH as a benefit.
They see it as shared cost reduction.
Older generations were told to be grateful.
Gen Z reads the balance sheet.
- They value flexibility.
- They value fairness.
- They value transparency.
They’re not asking for favors.
They’re asking for alignment.
It’s not audacity.
It’s awareness.
And honestly, can you blame them?
I run a pawn shop. You see a lot of sadness here. A kid, maybe 12, came in with a guitar. It was a cheap acoustic, scratched up. "How much?" he asked. "I need to buy my mom a birthday present." I looked at the guitar. It was worth maybe $10. "Play me something," I said. He played. He wasn't great, but he had heart. He closed his eyes and strummed. "You know," I said, scratching my beard. "That's a rare model. vintage wood." "It is?" "Yeah. I can give you $50 for it. But on one condition." "What?" "You can't sell it. You have to keep it here on 'loan' and come practice on it twice a week. If you don't practice, the deal is off." He took the $50. He bought his mom a necklace. He comes in every Tuesday and Thursday. He’s getting better. I’m not buying a guitar. I’m investing in a musician.
