Yesterday, I filed to run for KS HD 28!
I believe in the Kansas traditions of progress, innovation, fair-mindedness, and superb public education. As a cancer doc for over 35 years, I offer my insights in identifying and solving problems to build a healthier 21st century Kansas!
The election is over, but the battle is not. The passion and commitment we brought to this campaign must now be brought forward to the bigger, even harder campaigns that face us. Together we’ll fight for the promise of Kansas and America.
Damn the torpedoes. Full speed ahead.
The additional votes needed to overcome my opponent’s slim majority haven’t materialized. The election process was impeccable; I do not challenge the outcome. Thank you to the dedicated election workers who made this happen.
I called my opponent today and acknowledged he won.
going to wake up to find that those bland assurances will not translate to common-sense, centrist votes. The real agenda will now unfold, and will be virtually veto-proof. There is a very real threat of long-term damage to our beloved Kansas.
I do not know what these young men's politics were, or would have been. Their sacrifices lie in a small, sacred place of memory and pain that is not political. Our obligation to them is to try to understand the passions and convictions so many were willing to sacrifice for.
My dear friends,
A campaign update is coming shortly, after we receive updated information.
Meanwhile, I feel more strongly than ever, and more dedicated than ever, to the causes that brought all of us to this campaign.
Today’s message is to my Uncle Ace:
On Nov. 2, 1944 Melvin Cohn parachuted from the B29 where he was a radio operator. He landed in German territory where he was shot, reportedly after being tortured. Melvin was 19 years old. There are so few words in this telling, and so much sorrow.
Win or lose, this has been one of the greatest experiences of my life, shared with some of the best people I’ve ever known. I will forever treasure the enthusiasm and hard work and faith in me shown by you, our volunteers, and donors.
I will keep you posted as things develop.
The Tuesday election was a real stinker at almost every level.
In the case of my election: it is still undecided, just as it was at this time two years ago. With 12,773 votes cast, my opponent's lead shrunk from 235 last night to 159 as of this writing.
I’ve spoken with people far more capable than me of understanding this glaring disparity—and they were as baffled as I. It is going to take real work to try to sort this out.
For now, our team is staying on top of the situation.
@joco I thank my volunteers for your faith and confidence.
And I thank you, the people of HD28, who opened your doors to me, took photos with me, put out signs for me, spread the word with your neighbors, gave me confidence that this community is worth fighting hard for.
@joco The journey started with my own door-knocking, but I wasn’t alone for long. Dozens of friends joined the effort, so that in the last months of the campaign we had 16 experienced canvassers. Six of them I met while canvassing! They were just a part of our extraordinary team
