16 Montreal police officers are under investigation for keeping the locs of apprehended Black men as trophies. No, this isn't the U.S. It's Canada. The depths of racism never cease to shock, turning human beings into targets and their identities into souvenirs.
Jamaican pilot Jabari Brown has been released by authorities in Paraguay after prosecutors determined there was no evidence linking him to an alleged drug trafficking operation involving a private aircraft that arrived from Miami. Brown had been detained as part of the investigation, but authorities later concluded he had no involvement or knowledge of the alleged operation. Three other individuals remain in custody while the case continues.
I miss the days when dancehall and hiphop had this kind of synergy. We had collabs. We had music videos. We had artistic direction and styling. We used to be a proper country.
bell hooks said that White people will meet a Black person who completely challenges every racial stereotype that they have, but rather than giving up the stereotypes, they create a special category for that person and say, things like “Well, you’re not like other Black people”, instead of saying, “My ideas of Black people were too narrow”.
This is called “subtyping” and it leads to the survival of negative stereotypes because the new category individual who’s supposedly “not like the others” is mentally isolated from the group.
What this shows is that bigotry is all about protecting an existing hierarchy and it doesn’t matter much whether a person is exposed to other people or not. Which is why meeting intelligent, kind, accomplished, or complex Black people does not dismantle prejudice if someone is emotionally invested in keeping the stereotype intact.
Exposure to facts and figures doesn’t change the situation either. Someone can know the statistics on crime, education, poverty, or discrimination and still keep racial stereotypes because the stereotype preserves a sense of superiority and avoids confronting historical responsibility.
This is part of why bell hooks further argued that racism is emotional and ideological more than just purely ignorant, which is then why facts by themselves usually do not overcome a worldview that a person is motivated to preserve.
Kartel made Emergency 21 years ago and the only thing that's changed is the name of the politicians. Actually, one of those names hasn't even changed either.

Poor people money lean back and rockaway...
I’m old enough to remember the outrage when Elephant Man sampled and remixed all those church songs.
Loooool and of course he’s on this riddim because he’s never too far from the scene of the crime .
Tbqh, I think it *IS* because it's multiple songs talking sexually explicit lyrics and consecutively. If it was 1 song, a few clean ones and then a next, maybe. But all at once like this?
@IrishandChin the Skeng song is “x rated” (by the standard you just applied)
many singles have been considered outrageous before; can’t agree that because it’s multiple songs.
This is my annual Bob Marley appreciation post.

I think being anti-patois is always tied to some sort of classism...even if self-directed. Personally I'm proud of being able to switch fluently between the two and I use them both everywhere, even in corporate spaces (there's always at least one raised eyebrow when I do that, which I ignore...as there's nothing 'inappropriate' about any of my languages).
