If you are working to sew distrust in our institutions, you are traitorous...and you are aiding and abetting our enemies. Of course we need to be vigilant in exposing corruption and those who would work to use these sacred institutions for their own nefarious purposes.

If we don't respect the process, we will lose it. If we don't work to inject esteem and honour into our institutions then we build distrust and disdain. We must recognize that threats to democracy and justice are existential. The threats from the outside are grave enough...

All the while, respecting the outcome of this democratic tug-of-war whether on the losing or winning side. Knowing that if you lose, your recourse is to educate, to convince and sway the views of the people and their leaders...so that a future vote may have a different outcome.

The tug of war in a legislature, a parliament, a congress, a senate...is the key. The changing of leaders and governing parties at every level allows us to cultivate, nurture, test and grow the best ideas, while weeding out failed ideas and policies.

The brilliance of democracy is it allows us to change course based on the will of the people. This has never been perfect and never will be, but it is the best compromise...which is a word you will hear me say a lot.
It is the basis of a just society and it is quickly dying.

Compromise is not a bad word, not a sign of weakness. Quite the opposite, it is a recognition of higher purpose and a display of selflessness and strength. We achieve by finding ways to work together. We fail when we retreat and entrench behind ideological fences.

take the best ideas, elements and policies wherever they come from and incorporate them into a system that allows for peace, freedom and security.
At our best we recognize and respect the human rights of all, allow for the free expression of all...and come together in compromise.

As far as ways of organizing societies...capitalism, socialism, communism, monarchies, republics, oligarchy, anarchy...they all have advantages and disadvantages...some more than others. The most successful countries don't ascribe to one of these systems, but rather...

Look, the west has imperfections, but there is no better way to organize a society than by letting people express their views freely, then pick representatives to make policy which manifests those views...ie. representative democracy.
