Unpopular opinion: I believe the goal of a society SHOULD be to secure the happiness and highest quality of life possible for its citizens NOT to endlessly generate capital for the ownership class at the expense of everyone else.
No, we shouldn’t just accept AI because it’s here. We shouldn’t just embrace it because there’s no other options. Fuck that. Fight back and fight for better. Demand better of this world instead of succumbing to it.

I managed to work a bit more on my Mirror’s Edge-inspired project.
The building in the background is a homage to the Nakagin Capsule Tower, now demolished.
Damon in Cardiff: We were taught French, German and latterly, thank goodness, some Spanish and Chinese now but never any Welsh. That doesn't make any sense because we're all neighbours and it's ridiculous we weren't taught Welsh! I was to say 'thank you' and I think it's 'diolch'
The thing about Generative AI is that no one using it actually cares about what they're making. They *necessarily* lack the passion for the medium required to even imagine something good, because if they cared that much, they would have started making it before AI came around
AI is a consumer facing product, not a creative tool. The act of prompting, waiting, and watching is passive and consumptive. No one else wants to watch what you've 'made', even other AI users. It's like describing a crazy dream you had, it's meaningless and no one cares but you.
Ash Sarkar wins over Matthew Syed re taxing billionaires.
Syed says Billionaires would leave if we taxed them more.
Sarkar says if they do, they can’t take property with them. If they sell, people won’t have to compete with them for property.
Syed “Well, that’s true.” #bbcqt
Zelda Williams has made a statement asking people to stop sending her AI videos of her father, Robin Williams:
“Stop believing I wanna see it or that I’ll understand, I don’t and I won’t. If you’re just trying to troll me, I’ve seen way worse, i’ll restrict and move on. But please, if you’ve got any decency, just stop doing this to him and to me, to everyone even, full stop. It’s dumb, it’s a waste of time and energy, and believe me, it’s NOT what he’d want.
To watch the legacies of real people be condensed down to ‘this vaguely looks and sounds like them so that’s enough’, just so other people can churn out horrible TikTok slop puppeteering them is maddening.
You’re not making art, you’re making disgusting, over-processed hotdogs out of the lives of human beings, out of the history of art and music, and then shoving them down someone else’s throat hoping they’ll give you a little thumbs up and like it. Gross.”
