Today we remember October 1, 1961, the day Southern Cameroon became independent and the nation celebrated reunification and the birth of the Federal Republic of Cameroon. I marched that day and joined the rest of the nation inebriated by a new future full of hope in a new bilingual and federal nation. The promise to know each other and protect the federal nature of the state was inscribed in the constitution. 63 years hence the excitement is slowly giving place to despair. Today, we are haunted by errors we have made in the past. Blood has been spilled and the will and dreams of a people subverted. So in 2025 we must stand ready to fight for the soul of our nation. Happy Independence/Reunification Day
