@luchi7 The contractors are paid against advance payment guarantees, normally between 15% to 25%. When they fail to do the work the guarantee is cashed. It’s cumbersome and slows down work

While it’s true there are several external factors inhibiting Africa’s progress, let’s also agree that we need to put our house in order. We’ve somehow normalized poor and visionless leadership, short-termism, greed, corruption, incompetence etc. And we sadly celebrate mediocrity

"My generation needs to trust our young people more. There will be a youth council that talks about jobs that I can't even imagine."
Creating jobs at scale requires throwing everything (and the kitchen sink) at the problem. At the @BrookingsInst event, I outlined how the AfDB under my leadership would target job-rich sectors like housing and agriculture, scale financing for SMEs, and—crucially—trust young people's leadership.
Let's simply ask our young people what they need and support them along the way. #NextAFDBPresident

Because real development isn't about ceremonies—it's about getting things done.
