@BeeBabs Followed you there in case you ever change your mind - you’re on of my social media faves so I hope you do! 🙂 Liking the vibes over there so far.
@mindyisser@BigMeanInternet I know for some, the domestic stuff seems small or unimportant. But like, scotus has hinted at striking down the right to same sex and interracial marriage. As someone in an interracial marriage living in a red state, the domestic stuff is very fucking salient.
@linluv5@dsfence64@killiandonneIIy@mindyisser@TanaGaneva If you need a degree to get through the hiring process, the job requires a degree by definition. But that’s beside the point - even skilled labor has entry level positions, so “entry level” is not the same as unskilled labor.
@dsfence64@killiandonneIIy@mindyisser@TanaGaneva The purpose of language is to communicate ideas. If you’re trying to articulate the difference between jobs that require years of education, apprenticeship, certifications, etc and ones that do not, it’s not more “precise” to flatten those differences.
@TheGlovesStayOn@mindyisser So your claim is that correctly using a term to describe a category of jobs while also saying that those workers deserve fair wages is condescending? FWIW I’ve worked unskilled jobs. If someone said this to me at the time I would have probably shrugged and said “yeah and?”
@dsfence64@killiandonneIIy@mindyisser@TanaGaneva “Skilled” doesn’t just mean “requires any level of training.” By that definition literally every single job is skilled, and there’s no way to differentiate jobs one can do without prior qualifications vs ones that require specific certifications, education, apprenticeship, etc.
@TheGlovesStayOn@mindyisser Sorry can you point to where she has been smug and demeaning? She’s repeatedly said unskilled labor is still hard and still deserves a living wage. I haven’t gotten a whiff of condescension here.
@Theo47102867 @blameitonthecob @one_more_EIS You may not consider it one but it is. These prompts are meant to help encourage daily movement, bc it’s possible to get the necessary exercise w/o designated workouts. Really you should just be happy you’re getting some good exercise in, not mocking the idea that it’s good.
@BeeBabs 100%. He was so awkward during that discussion too, panicking and sputtering out. Painful to watch. If he’d just paused for like 20 seconds and thought about it, he would’ve realized he handled the text as well as he could have and had nothing to hide. Alas.
@BeeBabs I was trying to understand why he would omit a detail that made him look better? But I think you’ve nailed it, he was just trying to avoid conflict and so downplayed the entire interaction, to his detriment. Could have been nothing but now it’s a Whole Thing.
@BrandyLJensen I don’t know why these guys have such disdain for people with jobs. Such a weird category of people to have a personal vendetta against.
@TMac_816 @QuintonLucasKC@BrianBeland@VdotL That’s true, tho lots of other cities are much bigger than KC. The other thing to remember w/a city stadium is that if more ppl are able to access it w/o having to park right at the stadium, it reduces load for those who do park on site. Public transit is an option not a mandate.
@CrazyLexxiCool@TaylorInChief I’d agree except that when she brought up how it helped her afford education etc, he guilt tripped her about how the privilege she gained isn’t a good justification. It just seems like these convos should have happened in the pods!
