The thought of them calling the DWP and explaining that their son cannot walk, talk or see, and then being told 'well he needs to stick to his commitments (ie. looking for work)' has gutted me. The entire system is designed to entrench this cruelty on disabled people's lives.
So they need to prove their son can't work to claim Universal Credit, but the local job centre is not wheelchair accessible. So whilst they wait for a face-to-face assessment, they have to look for work for him. Applying for jobs that he can't do.
The cruelty is the point.
Neoliberalism breaks human bodies and minds. It is also wrecking the planet.
Humans are treated like objects, not people, under this system. The planet treated like an endless resource.
Humans are deemed useless if we’re not breaking our bodies to make money for the system.
If the Secretary of State responsible for social media regulation and oversight says X/Twitter "isn't healthy for our democracy or our communities" she should take more decisive action - not just leave the platform. 1/6 🧵
Disabled activists have expressed alarm at the decision by prime-minister-in-waiting Andy Burnham to appoint former work and pensions secretary James Purnell as his new chief of staff.

An interesting read about the 1976 #heatwave 🌞
The suggestion that “we all had a wonderful summer and survived” is misleading.
It was reported that “200 people a day were apparently dying who would not have died if the weather had been normal”.

Therapy helps but let’s be clear. You can’t CBT your way out of capitalism. You can’t mindfulness your way out of racism. You can’t self care your way out of oppression. You can’t journal your way out of ableism. This isn’t about coping, it’s about deconstructing the systems.
The Royal Society for Blind Children and the National Deaf Children's Society have both come out against the Starmer social media ban.
"Internet bad" is a trendy, upper-middle-class opinion for people with extracurricular budgets that ignores legions of people who rely on it.
🚨BREAKING: Filton 4 sentenced as terrorists
Amnesty opposes the use of terrorism powers in this case.
It is completely disproportionate to punish protesters for criminal damage as if they were terrorists, a sentence which stays with you for life.
The defendants in today’s case were sentenced as terrorists because prosecutors want to make an example of them.
Today's decision shows how direct action protesters could be treated in the future.
The use of terrorism laws against direct action protesters must end.
Together we must continue calling out the abuse of power and fighting for our right to protest.

When you have a chronic illness It’s normal if you don’t have any friends. There will be times in your life where you might only have one or two, or none at all. Sometimes it’s because you just can’t maintain friendships, sometimes it’s because you haven’t found someone who truly understands. Media normalizes having a gaggle of friends and loved ones. But there are so many of us who are ill who don’t have any, and we are just making it work, despite it being so lonely sometimes. Just know you are not alone. I don’t have any true and deep friendships right now, and if you don’t either, then we are going through this at the same time. Stay strong. We are alone, together.
Over 200 staff and students at #SaveGoldsmiths rally against 100% deductions - a lockout - for our marking and assessment boycott, which was our response to compulsory redundancies. We need your support! More here: https://t.co/zGQeP98D4P
in before this goes viral: i wrote a gothic dystopia about disability and overwork and grind culture and a billionaire funding a neuralchip to steal sleep to make everyone more productive that of course goes horribly wrong. if you’re into that kind of thing 👇
i’ve said it before and i’ll say it again: the old wisdom of needing time for convalescence was right and it’s been lost in favour of temporary Productivity instead of solidifying long-term health, and it’s hurting us all. often it’s REST that’s most needed and hardest to achieve
When everyone is sick & dying of rare disease/cancers, & we have no fresh water because we gave it all to data centers, & wet bulb temps eat our bodies/power sources, & we’re all starving because food is unaffordable, that’s when billionaires are going to shut down social media.
We live on a planet where forests are linked by underground fungal networks, birds cross continents using Earth’s magnetic field, dolphins recognise themselves in mirrors, and seeds can sleep for decades before waking again. A world full of intelligence we barely understand.
I've just written and deleted a few versions of a thread about how there are some health conditions that are socially acceptable.
The people who have them are somehow almost canonised just because they have those conditions...
