Data that resonates with my own clinical experience - that for an older person, requiring SLT in ED is associated with increased frailty, delirium & higher mortality in next 1000 days @MullingarFIT - thank you @kirwan_jenny@OrlaBoyle_SLT@EoinLynchSLT
Joining @OrlaBoyle_SLT and @EoinLynchSLT in presenting our findings on SLT role within ED frailty teams for @iaslt webinar on SLT working in frailty , really interesting trends across @MaterFIT @GediTuh@WexFit
Been about five years since I first read this, on the English language's *completely universal but totally invisible* adjective hierarchy, and I can honestly say I've thought about it most days since.
In my role as an SLT, I try to support families to focus on ‘being guided by the person’ when it comes to eating and drinking as end of life approaches. Wonderful thread from @drkathrynmannix recognising that hard place between supporting well being vs ‘giving up on’ a loved one
With thanks to @richardodurrant for permission to share our DMs.
Worries about lack of nutrition at the end of life are very common, & should always be taken seriously.
I'm talking here about dying from an illness, & how dying impacts appetite & gut function.

A really informative insight in to the role of SLT in obstructive sleep apnoea by @EmmaWallacePhD as part of the ‘Where Breathing meets Swallowing’ conference - so much potential for SLT involvement across diagnostics and treatment to improve patient outcomes @dysphagiasigire
As dementia progresses & language becomes less useful, other means of communication dominate. Remember that people can recognise meaning in your tone of voice, facial expression & body language. Make it matter.#WithSLTuCan
A brilliant piece - are we deciding our older adults' 'rehab potential' based off the resources we can give to them in a system not designed to meet our older adults' needs? https://t.co/ncDHRR6y39

“We sometimes think the words are enough, no matter who says them or what is said. But it’s part of who we are, it’s more than just words. It’s how you say them, it’s the meaning behind them.” https://t.co/oLQwI8mxSf
Ditto! - if those who take the e-learning modules gain even a fraction of the knowledge I took from exceptional SLT colleagues during their development, the future of SLT practice & service delivery for people living with dementia is bright!! @DSIDCDementia@iaslt@MullingarFIT
