Dear @FIFAcom,
Could you please clarify how the display of the “Las Malvinas Son Argentinas” banner after the World Cup semi-final complies with your own regulations?
The FIFA World Cup Regulations, Article 12 (Equipment) state:
“The display of political, religious, or personal messages or slogans in any language or form by players and officials on their playing or team kits, equipment… or body is prohibited.”
In addition, Law 4.5 of the IFAB Laws of the Game (The Players’ Equipment) states:
“Equipment must not have any political, religious or personal slogans, statements or images.” It further explains that political statements relating to governments, political acts or national issues are not permitted.
The sovereignty of the Falkland Islands/Malvinas is an ongoing political dispute between the United Kingdom and Argentina. On that basis, many would reasonably view the banner as a political statement.
If these regulations are to retain credibility, surely they must be enforced consistently, regardless of the nation involved.
I would appreciate FIFA’s clarification.
In August 2024 Rodri and Álvaro Morata were rightly banned for one match for singing “Gibraltar is Spain”.
Now the Argentine players who celebrated with the “Falklands are Argentine” banner must be barred from the final.
“What kind of a depraved monster slices off a woman’s breast while she is being gang raped, and throws it into the dust to be used as a plaything? What kind of a twisted pervert turns rape into necrophilia by shooting a woman in the head while he is still defiling her?
What kind of ‘freedom fighters’ go into battle with a set of handy Arabic-to-Hebrew phrases, including ‘take off your pants’, ‘lie down’, and ‘spread your legs’?
What self-respecting human being presses nails, scalpels, a hammer, an axe, screwdrivers and other household tools into a woman’s genitals?
How hard do you have to rape someone, and with what, to shatter their pelvis? Who shoots a young girl in the face and then films her mutilated corpse on her brother’s mobile phone?
The answer is: Hamas terrorists. This is the stark reality of what they did to men, women and children on October 7, 2023. And the world must never forget.”

2,000 wins. Each one means something.
I grew up ten minutes from this campus, in New Carrollton, Maryland.
This place was never just a school to me, it was home before I ever put on the uniform.
My parents went here. They were married at the chapel on campus. My dad was a Sigma Chi.
Some of my earliest memories are of cheering for Maryland athletics, especially those Len Bias and Joe Smith basketball led teams that made me fall in love with the Terps.
At DeMatha, I’d drive down Route 1 and grab lunch on campus, dreaming about one day being a Maryland baseball player.
That dream became a reality.
I was fortunate to wear this uniform, to lead as a captain, and to leave my mark alongside teammates who meant everything to me. But more than anything, Maryland shaped who I am. It gave me lifelong relationships, lessons, and memories from the field to the dugout, to places like Bentley’s, Cluck-U, and Ratsie's.
Now, to stand here as the head coach of my alma mater… it’s hard to put into words what that means.
This program isn’t just where I played.
It’s where I grew up. It’s where I became a man. It’s where I learned how to lead.
And today, as we celebrate 2,000 wins, I think about my family, every player, coach, staff member, and supporter who built this program into what it is. This milestone belongs to all of you.
I’m incredibly proud to represent this University and this state every single day.
Maryland means everything to me.
Thank you!
Go Terps 🐢
Survivors of the Easter Sunday terrorist attack are speaking out.
Islamic terrorists drove a truck into a crowd of Christian worshippers. Multiple dead. At least 57 injured.
“Christians have no rights in Pakistan. We had no security. No police. No help.”
But the West is silent
Sorry Jonah. I actually sat in the room for the first half of the movie.
For 24 polite years, Presidents Clinton, Bush and Obama diplomatically asked NATO members to increase defense spending. For 24 years, it was one excuse after another, all focused in Western Europe on how they wish they could spend more, but their social welfare spending priorities wouldn’t let them. In other words, you the US will spend on defense and protect us.
Along comes rude Donald Trump. Finally, someone made clear that if Europe kept freeloading the US was done. It took a bill in the China shop to move Europe. Diplomacy failed. Trump prevailed. That’s reality whether you or I like it.
NATO self-withered after 75 years. If Spain, England, Italy and France won’t spend what’s necessary to have a real military, it’s time for something new.
Hasan Piker is a proud antisemite who said “America deserved 9/11” and referred to Jews as "inbred."
Why are you giving him a platform @CNN? We can’t lend credibility to figures who preach hate.
@DCBarno@Elex_Michaelson@hasanthehun As the son of a Cuban exile, I can definitively say that communism is a mental disorder. I am sure that communist lives a life of luxury, as do all communist leaders. The peasants on the other hand……
@ianmSC His response was expected. Just an attack and an attempt at a 'drop the mic' moment. No substance whatsoever. Knowing he would not have to back up his dim-witted comment.
@grantpaulsen The name sucks. It has no soul and no connection. After so many years, it still sounds embarrassing. The last act of that disastrous ownership group.
This is the pedestal in Vienna where a statue commemorating Jan Sobieski's glorious cavalry charge against the Ottoman Turks was supposed to stand.
But then the city decided it was too Islamophobic to honor the heroes who saved their city from invasion.
Today marks 534 years since the conquest and destruction of the last Moorish kingdom on the Iberian Peninsula. To commemorate this anniversary, the Victory Banner is displayed in Granada before the tomb of the Catholic Monarchs and on the City Hall balcony.
The continued disrespect of Redskins greats by the Pro Football Hall of Fame's voting process is ridiculous. @JoeJacoby66HOG, @BMITCHLIVE30 and @LFletcher59 all should have gotten inducted into the HOF years ago.
