to expand on the whole “horses are products not celebrated athletes” attitude, i think another big reason the general public doesnt care abt racing is that the current modes of engagement from person to horse are very limited.

other than that, theyve played a large part in just dragging the sport through the dregs.

however, with the lack of engagement for american horses, it becomes hard for casual fans to truly connect with the horses without doing some extensive homework, which not everyone wants to do.
