The beauty of credit spreads is that everything is known upfront: max profit, max loss, breakeven, probability. The challenge is having the discipline to stick to your plan when emotions scream otherwise.
There’s always “dumb” behavior somewhere in every cycle. The difference is leverage and liquidity.
Pre-2008, the system was fragile because risk was layered on top of risk with short-term funding. Today, balance sheets are generally stronger, but pockets of excess still show up when money’s been easy for too long.
As traders, the takeaway isn’t to predict a crash. It’s to avoid crowded trades, respect leverage, and size positions so one bad macro turn doesn’t knock you out of the game.
