@JEAlexander@_deceptionfalls "Don't like new stuff." when GOW 2018 is the highest selling game in the franchise. You've got to have a better argument than that.
@Tjdrama88@mrw1sconsin@_AfroRoyalty Except change can be good OR bad. Are there weirdos out there that hate games with female leads? Absolutely, but a good chunk of GOW fans only want to play as Kratos in the games, which makes it difficult for SSM because fans aren't ready to move on from him.
@Tjdrama88@mrw1sconsin@_AfroRoyalty Because Kratos has been the central focus of GOW for 20 years. People literally grew up with the guy playing the games. It was obvious that this decision would cause division because it's the first time where he's not the focus. The backlash would be the same even with Atreus.
@Tjdrama88@mrw1sconsin@_AfroRoyalty They...absolutely...did. It's not as big as an uproar because Control is less recognizable compared to God of War or Tomb Raider. Just because it's not trending on twitter doesn't mean it's not happening.
@Tjdrama88@mrw1sconsin@_AfroRoyalty Engagement bait from a joke tweet doesn't represent the gaming space as a whole. The same people who want Kratos in their GOW games would also be in an uproar if Lara Croft got replaced by a man.
@Tjdrama88@mrw1sconsin@_AfroRoyalty Yotei got legitimate hate because people wanted more of Jin's story. It's almost like people enjoyed the main character from a game that sold 15 million copies. Now it's skin tight suits that irk you? Moving the goal post doesn't fix your argument either. Jill Valentine. RE3.
Iโd argue itโs more like pineapple on a pizza. Some people will love it, some people wonโt - and neither side is inherently wrong.
That said, I donโt think the backlash has anything to do with playing as a woman. Iโve never seen widespread complaints about playing as Lara Croft, for example.
The issue is that people expect to play as Kratos in a God of War game. With modern development cycles stretching across many years, replacing him as the protagonist means fans could be waiting a very long time for another Kratos-led adventure.
I suspect the reaction would be exactly the same if the next Tomb Raider suddenly had players controlling a male protagonist instead of Lara Croft.
@Tjdrama88@mrw1sconsin@_AfroRoyalty You played the game, but posted a picture of a costume instead of the original outfit? Now you're just being disingenuous. Fully clothed female even on the box art. Your argument is still flawed.
@Tjdrama88@mrw1sconsin@_AfroRoyalty These women look half naked to you? Samus wears armor ON TOP of a body suit for god's sake. Kratos himself has shown more skin over the years than any of them combined.
@wavysensei23@LUPASAN2 Hence why Santa Monica is doing the Greek era remakes. They know there's a side of the fanbase that wants more Kratos and another side that wants the series to evolve without relying on him.
@Tjdrama88@mrw1sconsin@_AfroRoyalty And the "hate women" narrative falls apart when female characters in games like Stellar Blade, Nier Automata, Bayonetta, Resident Evil, Metroid, etc. are widely praised and well received.
@Tjdrama88@mrw1sconsin@_AfroRoyalty It represents exactly what the game is going through. 2 decades of GOW games where Kratos is the central focus, and the one time he's not playable, people are upset. It's common sense that this was going to be a divisive decision.
@mrw1sconsin@_AfroRoyalty You wouldn't be saying that if you bought the next NBA 2K and the first thing you see is Lebron on a grass field kicking the ball around huh? Maybe if you ordered a pizza with only pepperoni and the delivery guy hands you a pizza with onions on it, you might understand.
@bigzaddy330@Super_Scoopy@xQc_dailyy Stop being disingenuous. Faye was mainly in the lore. She died before the events in GOW 2018 even began. I've played every single GOW entry, (including Betrayal) I'm pretty confident I know far more about the series than you do.
@bigzaddy330@Super_Scoopy@xQc_dailyy I'm just a realist. If they were confident those players would buy this, they wouldn't need God of War in the title and just let Fey stand on her own, but, you know, "marketing."
