RIP Alan Ward, Derby, Leics & England quick who has died aged 78. He took 460 1st class wickets at 22.81 & 143 List A wickets at 24.45, playing 5 Test matches for England -14 wickets at 32.35. In ‘76 at Leeds he took the field with John Snow & Bob Willis for the one & only time.
Ronny Stanyforth captained MCC in South Africa in 1927-28 despite never having played county cricket. A specialist wicketkeeper, in his only four Tests, all on that tour, he scored 13 runs at 2.60. He played once for Oxford before the war but most of his first-class cricket had been for the Army or the MCC. Importantly, he had toured Argentina with an MCC side captained by the influential Plum Warner the previous winter. Stanyforth did eventually play county cricket - three matches for Yorkshire in 1928 - and was picked for the MCC tour of West Indies in 1929-30 but returned home early with a hand injury
5th scorecard of 2026 season featuring 2 days of the England v New Zealand Test at @HomeOfCricket on a wicket that no one could have ever felt in when they were batting. it was a seam bowler’s paradise & certainly not a track for spinners. The bounce shall we say, was variable.

MJ Potts achieved the best FC bowling figures in an innings of 8-66 for @DurhamCricket v Derbyshire, beating the 7-30 set by MM Betts at Darlington in 2000. @ACScricket
A classic picture of 20-year-old Fred Trueman bowling for Yorkshire v Essex at Brentwood, June 14th 1951. In his first full season he took 90 wickets at 20.57 and was carefully managed by Norman Yardley to ensure he was not overbowled. National Service meant Trueman's appearances were limited in 1952 and 1953 although he did make his Test debut in that time
Magnificent maiden century from Thomas Rew, but he’s not the youngest @SomersetCCC centurion. That was Trevor Jones, who was 18 and 104 days when he made 106 batting at number 9 v Leics in July 1938. 2nd youngest is Tres and third James Rew
JM Coles and JD Unadkat set a FC partnership record for @SussexCCC v Glamorgan by adding 103 for the 10th wicket, beating the 67 set by TER Cook and WL Cornford at Horsham in 1929. @ACScricket
