Weird app this. To see staunch leftists attacking Gervais for “punching down” whilst simultaneously defending & worshipping Franky Boyle for rebranding as an anti-Tory, woke comedian after spending his entire career doing rape & disabled jokes is a wild level of hypocrisy
I’m all up for comedians being allowed to make jokes about anything. It’s up to the audience as to whether they find it amusing or not. But for a man like Boyle, who has joked about a disabled kid raping his mum, to attempt to shame Gervais for his act is the ultimate hypocrisy.
Boyle's new Guardian approved persona feels like a massive overcompensation for skeletons in the closet and past jokes about an actual living, named disabled kid "fucking" his mum. Weird to see him now a darling of the 'progressive left'. They cancel people for what they said 100 years ago, but conveniently forget what Boyle said ten mins ago.
Ricky is fair game for jokes about him of course. But it lacks self-awareness to go after him by way of getting a laugh with a minor variation of...a Ricky Gervais joke. At least Boyle attempted a joke though. Unlike Acaster and Kumar who somehow confused "angrily shouting what they think" with comedy material.
Is there anything more limp and toothless than a comedian that pushes establishment orthodoxy?
The reason he only sees accounts with no followers is because he's blocked most of X's Jewish accounts. He's blocked more Jews than George Galloway, and that's really saying something.
@Se_Railway Hello - the 9.20am and 10.20am from Ramsgate to St Pancras are still showing as scheduled to run - do you think they will? Or likely to be cancelled?
This is a good point. It’s not necessarily that he should not be allowed to say it, as a non-political BBC satrap. It’s that what he said is so jaw-droppingly stupid, ahistorical, and perverted in light of what the Nazis really did.
Good. Perhaps you’ll have a word with him about supporting terrorists and promoting virulently antisemitic twitter accounts as well? We tried to but he blocked us - he didn’t block the antisemite though. @BBCBreaking
@parvaest @PaulRowlinson@Peter_Shilton@DPJHodges@GaryLineker@BBC Agree: there are. Would he have been suspended (for pro-policy comments)? A lot of left-leaning people here in this thread would have called for it. Should he have been? Yes. Absolutely. I just strongly believe in the impartiality of the BBC…!
"I can't BELIEVE that a guy who used to peddle MY kind of conspiratorial juvenile drivel is now peddling a different kind of conspiratorial juvenile drivel! I feel BETRAYED!!"

@PaulRowlinson @paulspeacock @Peter_Shilton@DPJHodges@GaryLineker@BBC He said used ‘by Germany’, ie the state. At the time the state was governed by the Nazis. So…..he did say Nazis. To argue otherwise is attempting to split a single hair
Are BBC staff told to be politically impartial as part of their employment? Yes.
Has Gary Lineker been warned about impartiality before? Yes.
Is Gary Lineker paid £1.4m of licence fee payer cash to adhere to those rules? Yes.
Is this then a free speech issue? No.
