Around 4,000 direct and indirect jobs are at risk as proprietors of 20 MSMEs have initiated the process to shift their manufacturing units out of Chakan MIDC. Frustrated by deteriorating infrastructure, deep potholes, endless traffic jams, and frequent accidents, these business owners have formed an association to acquire industrial plots in Khandala MIDC in Satara district. The proposed migration represents a combined annual turnover of nearly ₹1,000 crore moving out of the Chakan belt, where employees currently lose up to two hours in traffic covering just a few kilometers. After getting no concrete action from the administration despite repeated appeals regarding road repairs and traffic control, company owners are prioritizing employee safety, smoother logistics, and better roads in Shirwal and Khandala to keep their operations alive.
