Another week and another tilting weir installed. This will not only help keep vital peat soils wet but will also aid in the supply of water to the historical duck decoy close by.
#BroadsIDB recently completed vital flood defence improvements at the Brograve embankment, funded by the IDB Storm Recovery & Asset Improvement Grant Scheme.
This 450m @EnvAgency embankment plays a crucial role in protecting 230ha of agricultural land, the Brograve Pumping Station, and the wider drainage network. Over time, erosion and settlement had led to frequent overtopping and flooding.
To restore resilience, the embankment’s crest level has been rebuilt using locally sourced material. This work reduces flood risk, safeguards infrastructure, and improves drainage efficiency—helping cut energy costs and carbon emissions at the pumping station.

Last week, we had the pleasure of awarding certificates and prizes 🏆 to the talented children of Thurlton Primary School for their amazing 'pumping station of the future' designs!
As part of the #NortonPumpingStation project, the students visited the site to discover how #WaterManagement plays a crucial role in their region.
There were so many excellent competition submissions, but the winning duo, Billy & Frankie, earned a special honour - the two new Archimedes screw pumps at Norton will be named after them at an opening ceremony in 2025! 👏
With Storm Darragh bearing down on us, take care when you're out and about over the weekend - and don't forget the NFU's adverse weather toolbox, which has lots of handy information. ☔️
