Fourth-and-1 at midfield today. Fourth-and-2 in the fourth quarter. We got stopped both times, and Florida scored a touchdown after each one.
Coach Sark,
I played for Texas. I was a team captain and an All-American on the Forty Acres. I love this program, so writing this hurts. I'm only doing it because I think one thing is holding us back, and I'd rather say it to you straight than keep yelling at my TV.
Please hand the play sheet to someone else.
You've done a lot for this place. Two straight playoff semifinals and an SEC title game in our first year. Texas matters again because of you, and I'm grateful. I'm not calling for your job. Not even close.
But look at the big moments. Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl, first-and-goal at the 1, and we walked away with nothing. Ohio State again last year, fourth-and-goal from inches, we stayed in a speed package and got stuffed. You said yourself you'd probably sub if you could do it over.
Last week against OU it was third-and-1 at our own 45 and we threw a little pass to the back that lost 2. Tied 24-24, two minutes left, fourth-and-2 at their 35, we sent out the kicker for a 53-yarder. Today you called the fourth-down run "not very good design."
I went back through the official play-by-play. In our two losses this year we converted 4 of 11 third and fourth downs with two yards or less to go.
That's not all on the line or the backs. Nobody is getting push right now. We're running for about 3.6 a carry. That's exactly why this offense needs a coach whose whole week is the offense. Your job never stops. Recruiting, the portal, NIL, a 100-plus man roster. That's a full-time job by itself.
History backs this up. The last head coach to win a national title calling his own offensive plays was Jimbo Fisher, in the 2013 season. No champion in the playoff era has done it. Ryan Day gave the calls to Chip Kelly in 2024 and won it all. You won a ring at Alabama calling plays for Coach Saban.
You already have Kyle Flood with the coordinator title. Let him call it, or bring in someone you trust. Then you get to be the head coach on fourth-and-1, seeing the whole field.
This is the school that ran the wishbone to titles in '69 and '70. Earl Campbell ran for 1,744 yards in '77. Ricky Williams left with 6,279. We know who we're supposed to be. And our defense is holding teams under 3 yards a carry. We can win with that.
After OU you said "not a chance" about giving up the calls. I'm asking you to think about it one more time. For the players.
Hook 'em.

Long-winded, but hear me out... The true barometer for how the committee TRULY views risking an Out-Of-Conference Elite Opponent is how they treat Alabama vs Texas this year. They are essentially the same exact team, except Alabama played 4 unranked OOC opponents (but still took a bad loss) and Texas played OOC @ Ohio State (but took their bad loss in conference). Alabama is 10-2 instead of 9-3 because of that lone choice. Texas is 9-3 instead of 10-2 because of that lone choice. Alabama lost to Top 10 Oklahoma at home, who Texas "blew out" at a neutral site. Alabama beat Georgia on the road, who "blew out" Texas at home. 1 equal notch each there. Both Alabama and Texas handled Vanderbilt pretty easily (was up 30-14 and 34-10 in the 4th, respectively). Equal. Alabama was losing to bad S. Carolina in the 4th and won by a score. Texas took OT to beat bad Kentucky. Equal. Alabama was tied with bad Auburn in the 4th and won by a score. Texas beat bad Miss St in OT. Equal. Alabama had a bad loss to Florida St. by 14, Texas had a bad loss to Florida (Florida actually just beat Florida St. 40-21, so it makes Texas' bad loss not look as bad as Alabama's). Equal enough. My point is, there is no better measurement for how the committee looks at an elite OOC opponent than comparing Alabama & Texas. If Alabama plays Ohio State OOC, back when they couldn't beat FSU, then they're likely also 9-3. Alabama had 2 Top 10 wins. Texas had 3 Top 10 wins. If they put Alabama in, but leave Texas out, then they are telling everyone that risking an Elite OOC loss @ Ohio State is not worth it. Now if Bama loses to Georgia in the SECCG, giving them a 3rd loss and another elite opponent on par with Ohio State, then also view what the committee does then. At that point, Bama would have 3 losses like Texas and would be 2-2 vs Top 10 teams where Texas is 3-2 vs Top 10 teams. If the committee says they're not gonna punish a team for playing an extra Conference Championship Game, then what is their reasoning for punishing a team for playing the most Elite OOC opponent on the road when those games have been encouraged? Anyway, I know it's long-winded, but necessary. How the committee treats Alabama & Texas here is the perfect litmus test for how they view elite OOC risk.
For those that want to talk about losses….
I’d suggest we talk about the quality of wins.
Wins are a much better barometer of a team’s ability to win a championship. The NCAA hoops selection committee operates with more data points for that very reason.
Texas has beaten two teams by double digits (one by three scores) that are “expected” to make the CFP.
The only other teams that have done that are Georgia (against Texas) and Indiana (against Oregon). And they’ve only done it once.
Colin Simmons was asked by @_dannydavis about this environment tonight...
"I love Texas...It was amazing. It's a blessing to be on that football field each and every day"

TEXAS IS …
🤘🏻ONLY team to beat 3 AP or CFP Top-10 teams at time of game
🤘🏻ONLY team with 2 wins over teams currently ranked in CFP Top 10
🤘🏻ONLY team with 3 wins over current CFP top-15 teams
🤘🏻FIRST team since LSU (2019 National Champs) to beat 3 AP top-10 teams in a season
Texas has the most wins over projected playoff teams of ANY SCHOOL IN THE COUNTRY.
Texas has the most wins over Top 14 teams of ANY SCHOOL IN THE COUNTRY.
THE TEXAS LONGHORNS SHOULD BE IN THE COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF!
Let’s talk about it 🤭🤭 since yall wanna kick and scream like little toddlers bc Texas got a favorable call for maybe the SECOND TIME ALL YEAR, let’s talk about this play ESPN announcers hyped up as an “AMAZING” effort by #77 instead of brining up that it’s actually illegal
Trying to learn why this wasn't an Offensive Pass Interference when Skattebo shot his elbow back into Taaffe's chest to create separation. INSTEAD, it was called on Texas. 🤯 Looks like the powers that be were tired of blowouts... #RefCalls
If Skattebo was puking on the sideline because he is concussed - I can’t even verbalize how MASSIVELY irresponsible it is for them to allow him to continue playing. Continuing to play post-concussion is measurably more damaging. It’s not “giving it his all”. It’s irresponsible
