Independents who won in today's elections - Congratulations!

How will you help Gaza practically now? In what capacity? As a backbencher, what difference will you actually make?

I want to add the example of the Assadist @georgegalloway who won seats in Tower Hamlets, Bradford, and Rochdale (now lost). I ask you, what changed in Palestine 🇵🇸? What impact did he have in Parliament? What power did he have? I’m sorry, but I’m not going to succumb to emotional blackmail for Palestine.

If you add that we need representation in Parliament for Palestine, then I agree, of course it does. But I’m not gullible enough to think it will change absolutely anything. The change in dynamics has been shifting the minds and perceptions of people to put pressure on the government to change policy, which sometimes works and sometimes does not, but we do not keep silent. Our voices have been much louder since this aggression by the Zionists and the genocide they have committed.

In 2003, I joined the millions across the UK and protested against going to war in Iraq. The British people spoke and were completely ignored. I was 21, and ever since that time, I realized the odds are stacked against us and always will be.

Consistency is key and we still need to speak for the oppressed post-election. If you find now that the elections are over and the ratio of posts, tweets, and videos for Gaza is less than it was during the election, then know you have been played.

I would like to remind everyone who has a short-term memory. In 2003, not long ago, right? Al-Aqsa was raided and desecrated during Ramadan. The day after, Gaza was struck with missiles. Where was the outrage? Where were the tweets and videos by the same independents who are vocal today?

Looking to the future, it’s not just the Gaza War. We also need to be vocal for the Syrians, Kashmiris, etc. This effort and momentum to raise awareness for the plight of not just the Gazans or Palestinians, but also for the Syrians, Kashmiris, Uyghurs, and Rohingyas, must continue post-election.

I’m not denying brothers and sisters are not vocal for the causes above. I don’t want to say opportunists because that’s harsh and unjust. Gaza is trending for some and once the algorithms die down, sadly we know what will happen.

The harsh truth is Palestine has been used to push their own goals and aspirations.

We have challenges in front of us, but never despair and keep raising your voice for the oppressed post-election. We cannot allow this momentum to slow down, إن شاء الله
