Yes, I was born in Calgary, because my mom went into labor earlier than expected while visiting my father, who was playing in the CFL at the time. I was supposed to be born in Seattle, where we lived at the time.

I’m the only person in my family born outside the U.S. My parents are from San Francisco, and our family roots are spread throughout the South.

By the way, I am a descendant of enslaved Americans with lineage that traces to Copiah County, Mississippi, among other places.

So while you found my birthplace, you clearly missed my story!
