Huge thanks to @filipmaricpt@JeremyLewisPT and Dr Jessica Stanhope for getting this to print! Also grateful to the peer reviewers! Prescribing active transport as a planetary health intervention – benefits, challenges and recommendations https://t.co/UpAuSrP9ld
Ireland's National Transport Authority has released its new Cycle Design Manual, and it's filled with Dutch-inspired elements adapted for an Irish context:

Great to hear that @EamonRyan wants to fully withdraw Ireland from the Energy Charter Treaty. I fully support Ireland taking back control from the greedy energy companies

Cycle lanes reduce congestion. Their capacity for moving people is about six times that of car lanes. More cyclists means fewer cars on the road, saving billions of 💰💰💰in congestion costs (and on healthcare, pollution etc.) HT @WeAreCyclingUK
Cycling is good for business! People who walk or cycle make more trips to the shops and spend more money. Tell your local shopowners when they oppose cycle lanes or pedestrian streets! HT @WeAreCyclingUK for the graphic.
There's no "bicycle culture" in the Netherlands, just like there's no "shoe culture" for people who walk where you live.
It's just another option you can use if it's more convenient (and it often is, due to properly designed road infrastructure).

Want to add healthy years to your life? Consider taking up cycling! If it were a 💊, everybody would take it.
Cycling significantly lowers (even halves) mortality hazards across the board.

You have to be a special kind of lucky to get to write an #EnviroPT chapter with @sunsopeningband! What a pleasure to have worked on this together and add a broader perspective to #lifestylemedicine.

E-bikes are as close to a silver bullet for achieving net zero as you can get.
'3 studies indicated a reduction in car use of 20% - 30%'
We should be moving heaven and earth to enable their uptake
Summary of 107 academic studies about e-bikes:
🔷 Use of e-bikes "is associated with lower energy and emissions."
🔷 E-bike riding "is a form of moderate to vigorous intensity physical activity."
🔷 E-bikes "can cause a significant modal shift."

Heavier cars are safer for their drivers, but far deadlier for everyone else.
This paper find that for every 1,000 pounds a car weighs over a Toyota Corolla, the chance of killing another person goes up by 46%! Heavier vehicles lead to 28k more US deaths. https://t.co/PdvC6OEPWz
@IrishRainforest Hi Eoghan, do you know if the “Creation of Woodland on Public Land scheme” helps preserve areas like this? Is Sitka more profitable or why is this happening? https://t.co/odvhY5RRKM
Major traffic jams can be solved if only a small proportion of the traffic is shifted to other modes. If cycling measures could lead to a decrease in car traffic of just a couple of percents, the investment in cycling will pay for itself. https://t.co/RtyQ3DyZEg
Remarkable new research about the "Roundabout City" -- Carmel, IN.
Carmel's roundabouts have apparently reduced crash injuries by 47%(!).
