🔀 China vs ex-China: A tale of two very different outlooks for rare earths
When assessing the outlook for rare earths supply and demand, it can be a mistake to extrapolate a single outlook onto all regions globally.
In the case of China versus the ex-China market, we continue to see a tale of two very different outlooks unfolding over the medium- to long-term with potential to alter global pricing power and market dynamics.
How do you think this scenario will play out?

CHART: EV battery metals index jumps to 27-month high
December’s global EV raw materials bill surpassed $2B for the first time since August 2023, and with lithium and nickel prices climbing into 2026, the battery metals downturn appears firmly over, says @AdamasIntel.

💵 Over the past 12 months, price bifurcation in China combined with the emergence of price floors outside China combined with astronomically high prices quoted by intermediates in Europe have amplified confusion about actual prevailing price levels for several critical rare earth elements.
This confusion is compounded by Price Reporting Agencies that misrepresent outlier price levels from intermediates as mainstream despite underlying trade volumes being negligible.

So – the next time you read a headline about nations “challenging China’s rare earth dominance”…
💪 Remember – they’re challenging China’s grip on THEIR supply chains, not its global lead.

🧲 The rare earth magnet supply chain continues to attract big investments!
No shortage of new developments in our Q1 2026 Magnet Factory Outlook Report.
After a massive leap in Q3 2025, the pipeline of existing and planned NdFeB magnet production capacity outside China rose another 11% in Q4 2025 on the back of new factory announcements and/or capacity expansions.
At the same time, India launched an $880 million support scheme to incentive development of 6,000 tpa of magnet production capacity in the country for which the government is expected to issue a request for proposals later this month.

Earlier this year, Noveon Co-Founder & CCO Peter Afiuny joined fellow industry leaders at @AdamasIntel’s Rare Earth Mines, Magnets & Motors Conference to discuss the future of a resilient, high-performance rare earth magnet supply chain.
@AdamasIntel @ryancastilloux
Morgan Stanley projects $25T in annual robot revenues by 2050.
Given the reliance on high-performance permanent magnets, what share of this value ultimately flows to rare earths producers?
@AdamasIntel nailed it here with this quote “
It is a frankly a billion-dollar problem that affects trillion-dollar downstream industries. So, it is worth solving. Ryan Castilloux” and probably multiples on both sides when factoring all the defense and battery elements. @ReElementTech@Amerresources $arec @electrifiedmat@royaltymgmtcorp $rmco
Big thanks to @AdamasIntel for visiting our San Marcos headquarters and taking a deep dive into how Noveon is leading the industry as the first company to scale commercial production of American-made rare earth magnets in over 20 years.
Their coverage captures exactly what we’re building: a resilient, high-performance domestic rare earth magnet supply chain that puts the U.S. ahead.
