"No longer will we accept that prestigious institutions must be powered by low wages and exploitative conditions...Now it’s clear that a better university, one that behaves in the interest of workers and the public, is well within our grasp." @uaw5810 https://t.co/0cZHhxU9qZ
“Postdocs and RSEs forced the University to meet their demands and won strong contracts which will make science and research at UW more inclusive and sustainable,” said Mike Miller, Director of UAW Region 6. @uaw4121@uwrunited https://t.co/BhOSXVzy2D
@alextwenzel They’re doing the same thing for new postdocs and when we raise it as a concern, we’re told it’s not happening anymore 🤔 maybe time for some implementation/enforcement
The racist/misogynist conspiracies about our union coming from a handful of people is unacceptable. Do better. Use your brain. Not at all challenging to imagine why our legal lead would have looked this over beforehand 🙄 and questioning her credentials is 100% a dog whistle
@zacarias_cabron He works on the same campus as me and is very involved in contract enforcement. We have a very effective direct action/grievance pipeline at UCSD that leads to big wins. We want these protections for our SRs too so no one gets kicked out of their program without cause
@zacarias_cabron We don’t trust the process of grievances alone for resolution, but rather just use them as a way to force management to meet with us on a timeline and give legal pressure to find resolution. We rarely escalate beyond step 2. https://t.co/11ap9kcWFy
I’m still in awe that I get to be part of this movement. I’ve learned so much and met so many wonderful people. Looking forward to testing our shiny new contract language against disrespectful and bully PIs. Let’s bring it home for the grads and reform the ivory tower for good!
