From 9 January – 2 March, Exeter Cathedral Organ Scholar will be taking on the exciting challenge of performing all 48 preludes and fugues of J.S. Bach’s ‘Well-tempered Clavier’ to raise funds for the 2025 Exeter Cathedral Choir Tour to Normandy and Paris. Here’s a preview of Adam rehearsing for this evening’s Choral Evensong. PUBLISHED TODAY: Preces & Responses by @adamfield02, a composer who holds the Percy Young Senior Organ Scholarship @Selwyn1882 and the organ scholarship for @kingsvoicescam, the mixed-voice choir @Kings_College. Preview his new score: https://t.co/dHbSOydeAb
@liturgicalben@PatrickAllies If “Preces” are prayers or requests, then “O Lord make haste to help us” is as much a prece (if that is the correct singular) as “O God make speed to save us? If they are to be split into cantor-choir, then I think “Versicles and Responses” is clearer.
We are delighted to announce the appointment of our new Organ Scholar, Adam Field. Currently in his final year at Selwyn College, Cambridge, where he is reading for a degree in Music, Adam is looking forward to playing his part in the musical life of the Cathedral. Congratulations to Selwyn’s organ scholar @adamfield02, who has passed his Fellowship Diploma of the Royal College of Organists (FRCO). This is the most advanced qualification available to organists, and it’s highly unusual for it to be awarded to undergraduates.
@ajmnewma@_F_B_G_ Yes, Bishop George Augustus Selwyn, after whom @Selwyn1882 is named, rowed in the first race in 1829 (granted, he wasn't a clergyman at the time). Selwyn is also the only Oxbridge college to be named after someone who rowed in the boat race.
In latest “decline of the Church” news: at half past nine on a cold and rainy Wednesday night, Selwyn College Chapel was full (with almost everyone under 30) for Choral Compline in Latin. Laus Deo.
