I was having a chat with a pal of mine last night about Saturday evening television in the 1980's and, perhaps inevitably, Stan Boardman's 1986 appearance on Des O'Connor tonight came up.
Remember Fokker-gate?
It's the definition of a legendary TV moment really, specifically because of the chaos it caused both during and after a live broadcast. Indeed, Stan was all but banned from appearing on live TV for a considerable amount of time afterwards.
It's a great bit of TV!
Happy Friday Eve. Come on, almost there!
@TrooperSnooks There must be an evolutionary reason for this: is it reinforcing migration waypoints? calibrating their magnetic compasses? It’s not like fish shoaling to defend against predators (unless some primeval fear has been reawakened by A380s)
@TrooperSnooks I’ve plenty of suckers and have been thinking of pruning them to single stems and opening a pick your own shillelagh shop in a couple of years. They’ll be the must have accessory for a man around town by then!
@TrooperSnooks I quite like the empirical approach: as a 7 year old in the mid-70s I wondered what would happen if I pushed all the buttons on a tv at the same time. Turned out the Radio Rentals chap had to replace the tv and my parents were not best pleased. 🙄
@TrooperSnooks I really hate the whole party politics bollocks: MPs should be there to represent their constituents and not be tied to what some career minded arsehole wants. 🤬😤🤬
