Nice! A self-seeded kāramu underneath a ngaio tree at Pourewa. 🌱 Nature is starting to do its thing!
This is part of @AUT_Living_Labs, tracing the ecological dynamics of regeneration, especially the extent to which birds are bringing seeds from nearby Kepa Bush Reserve. 🕊️🔍
In 2019 this area was kikuyu grass and the odd privet, an old pony club that had finally been returned to its rightful owners Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei. Now it’s already transforming to mixed native forest…. And yes the ngaio really took off!
Check out my latest podcast where I discuss the impacts of Cyclone Gabrielle and offer some critical thoughts about land use changes urgently needed https://t.co/xtI7mkVvC4
We're very pleased to publish our new article which sets out methodologies & intentions for our @AUT_Living_Labs research programme which not only aims to understand the world, but to change it for the better! #naturebasedsolutions@AUTuni#autresearch https://t.co/0PTJCflqim

@KorimakoEcology We need to be optimising management of our indigenous ecosystems just like we optimise agricultural land uses. Yes there are cost issues with ecological management but let’s address them rather than accepting compromises which perpetuate current crises.
@KorimakoEcology 1/2 I agree in some contexts (eg some grasslands) grazing helps maintain native communities but here I think it is resistance to change. Policy is driving people to adopt appropriate land use (retirement) and invest in targeted pest control.
We're looking for Relieving #Rangers to join our team 🌿 You'll spend your days on track #maintenance, facility & visitor management, tending to #wildlife and #biosecurity monitoring – no day is the same on #RotoroaIsland. Learn more about the #job – https://t.co/6kiLgfFHXh 💙
