This is an important discussion with needed action steps. Thank you @washingtonpost for putting this on my radar. I haven't found a discussion or written information pertaining to impacts and solutions for English Learner parents, families, and students. It's so needed.
If you or anyone you know that lives in Fairfax and is looking for part-time teaching work or part-time 2nd job in person or online, DM me. Our Adult ESOL program is looking for more teachers for this fall starting in Sept.
My child came home with the best first day of school newsletter about import things I've ever received. The flip chart is fantastic. It's parent, child, and English Learner family friendly minus a few things. Suggestions for EL family improvements are in my next tweets. Part 1
Part 2- Take out the cursive font. All fonts should be user friendly with an "a" that is in handwritten shape versus typed shape. Add icon visuasl to the headers. Add QR code & link to front that leads to narrated short videos with text and visual supports reviewing same content.
Part 5-For privacy reasons, I will not display inside images. My suggestions are from things I see lacking. This is a huge improvement than being inundated with papers and also gives paper support for those with limited technology. More ideas may come. What ideas do you have?
Part 4-Include QR code and link to image file of daily schedule that can be easily saved to a parent/caregivers' mobile device for quick access. Put all video content that is embedded on a Youtube Playlist for easy accessing in the future.
Today, I officially finished the rigorous and intensive Longwood University Leadership Endorsement Program for Education Administration. Today, I bask in this accomplishment during a year of immense adversity. @longwoodu
PLN, do you know of any online conversation protocols that help reluctant students turn on microphones to share their voice in full group class conversations, so they are not overpowered by vocal students? I'm looking for protocols for full class interaction, not breakout groups.

Wow! "... la aplicación MiyotlApp, primera aplicación en el mundo que cuenta con más de 15 lenguas indígenas y con un almacenamiento, hasta el momento, de más de 10 mil palabras y poco más de 100 textos."

We have learned this from the massive and unprecedented transitions to online educational formats. What are the steps for now and the future you are seeing to providing these resources and opportunities in a supportive and equitable application and lens?
Wow! A 2014 article I wrote is so oddly applicable now, "New formats of electracy are providing more opportunities for students to engage in synchronous learning (collaborative, communicative and in real-time)." #ellchat#TESOL#ESL https://t.co/qRXUIc2k24
The pandemic has taught us much more about what's needed to drive multilingual learner learning in electracy and online interactive engagements with equitable accessibility and opportunities to resources and experiences.

Do you know of any good English/Kurdish bilingual books for Multilingual Learners who are middle schoolers? If so, what are they, and where can they be purchased? Thank you.
