The husband and wife had gone to inspect the house when the dog suddenly lunged at them after they rang the doorbell.

Local residents intervened, but both suffered multiple bite injuries and were taken to a private hospital for treatment.

AIFF PROPOSES TIER SYSTEM FOR SR NATIONALS

The AIFF has proposed a three-tier system for the Santosh Trophy for the 2026-27 season and the Senior Women’s National championship for the Rajmata Jijabai Trophy to “ensure fair competition and more meaningful matches, with promotion and relegation between tiers.”

The Competition Committee of the AIFF has agreed to implement the new system in the upcoming Santosh Trophy, though not unanimously.

The minutes of the AIFF Competition Committee said:

“Tier 1 - Elite Level: Reserved for high-performance competition, featuring semi-finals and finals. The bottom two teams will be relegated to Tier 2 for the following season.

“Tier 2 – Challenge Level: Positioned between the Elite and Development levels. The top two teams will be promoted to Tier 1, while the bottom two teams will be relegated to Tier 3 for the following season.

“Tier 3 – Development Level: Focussed on supporting rebuilding and emerging state teams. The top two finishers will be promoted to Tier 2 for the following season.

“Teams have been allocated into the three distinct tiers based on the total points they have accumulated over the past three years.”

The tier classifications:

Santosh Trophy:

Tier 1: Manipur, Kerala, Services, Delhi, Bengal, Railways, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Odisha, Punjab, Maharashtra, Uttarakhand.

Tier 2: Goa, Meghalaya, Rajasthan, J and K, Mizoram, Gujarat, Nagaland, UP, Telangana, Pondicherry, Chandigarh, Karnataka.

Tier 3: Tripura, Ladakh, Lakshadweep, Arunachal Pradesh, Haryana, Sikkim, Jharkhand, Andaman and Nicobar, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, DNH & DD.

Senior Women’s Nationals:

Tier 1: Bengal, Manipur, Railways, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Sikkim, Punjab, Haryana, Jharkhand, UP, Delhi, Goa.
