@bilkiisu_ @UdyHighs The two exits on the left are exit only from the mosque, the entrance is on the other side. The people coming off the highway on the left are only supposed to head straight hence the thick white line. To get to those parastatals, you use the ramp at Federal secretariat.

@Engr_Series If you know the road you'd understand, those coming from the left are getting off the highway that leads to the same place that right turn leads to hence the thick white line. The ingress on the left is an exit only so that CRV driver should be arrested.

@aminu_rb Guy, most times the truck drivers aren't at fault, I've witnessed a few on the express and in most cases it's the motorists that don't respect truck blindspots and stopping distance.

It's not as if I have anything personal against people who voluntarily emigrate from Nigeria. After all, when I went into exile, that was a form of voluntary migration, too.

The issue is that the Nigerian diaspora - easily the largest African diaspora on earth - mostly consists of people who don't know why they exist, and have zero plan for their life beyond the next shift they want to pick, the next party they want to attend, the next overpriced holiday they want to go for, and the next "Detty December" they want to spend in Lagos and Accra stunting on poor people, and straining their livers and sex organs. And of course, the next hot japa destination to submit passport for, because wherever they are is somehow never avtually good enough, and there is always another place with "greener pastures." No single plan or higher thought beyond that.

And that's why as soon as socioeconomic headwinds change wherever they are, it NEVER occurs to them to step back and examine the wider geopolitical picture of why the world is how it is, and what role they should be playing in it as Africa's premier flagbearers. Nope. As soon as wherever they are should "cast," next thing you know, they're submitting passport, filing application, and entering plane to chase the same chimeras somewhere else.

Get a UK student visa in Lagos. Start hustling in London after school. Move to Hannover because you heard the pay is better. Jump to Brisbane because Germany is too cold and racist. Dip toe in Auckland after finding out that Australia is full of racist South African boers. Then book a Qantas flight to Saskatoon because New Zealand has no jobs and you heard that even though Ontario is crowded, Saskatchewan has streets flowing with milk and opportunity because nobody wants to move there. Eventually cross the border into Detroit because America offers more opportunity than Canada. Then spend the next 10 years moving from Detroit to Chicago to Atlanta to New York to Houston to Los Angeles to San Diego to Boston because there was a job with an extra $10/hour, until you fall over and die of Coronary Artery Disease at 57, leaving behind a bickering family, 3 secret children scattered around the world, an overpriced ghetto-fabulous house in Lekki that you never lived in, and that's it.

The mindset of a rat foraging for grains.

Zero attention span, zero self-awareness, zero situational and spatial awareness, zero geopolitical awareness. Just doing a cheap labour parade around the world achieving nothing, but leaving a lot of noise and unnecessary drama in your wake. Cannot organise themselves in large groups to accomplish anything back home. Cannot organise themselves even to do anything where they are, unless it is a party or an opportunity to exchange gossip and fuck each other's wives. Cannot fund political takeovers back home to secure their own overpriced Lekki and village mansions. Cannot organise anything to take care of their own group interests.

The only thing they know is that as soon as everything should "cast" where they are, na to rush enter plane to start over somewhere else - anywhere else except Africa. Very useless mindset.

If there is one thing I genuinely and wholeheartedly hate with all my heart about Nigeria, its people, and especially its pseudo-elites, it is the unique ability to barefacedly lie to themselves and each other (in large groups and over long periods of time) about things that are obvious and self-evident to the point of farce.

Nigeria has the planet's most shameless people, and I hate that about us. I absolutely hate it with everything I have.

@Iamyendis Honestly.. Laptops are a not so great investment especially for an architect. Once it starts to age you'd have to replace the whole thing especially with this new trend of soldered on parts. Unlike with a desktop that you can just swap and sell off the old parts.

WHERE DOES AN IDEA COME FROM?

It is a Mystery where “THE” idea comes from, but I do know we have to get out of our OWN way for it to arrive.

This is a Buddhist Monastery, Retreat Center, and Temple I designed in the hills of Bali.

When I was hired for this project, I moved to Bali and lived in a hut in the middle of a cemetery with 3 hermit Buddhist monks. That was my site. Site mapping from actually living on site, feeling the weather, the sounds, the sun sets. I stayed there until the rhythms of the place and the people seeped into me. Until I had walked the creek enough times that I no longer had to watch where I stepped. I talked to the monks through full moon nights, in rice paddies, next to open fires. I dreamt in worlds that still needed me to design.

In the most un expected moment…..I made the sketches I posted……the idea. I didn’t leave the cemetery for quite a few days after this, giving myself time to really let the idea settle into me. This is the idea that will get this project through, and it needs to be solid in the beginning, in the middle, and in the end. I use quick study models to pull the massings out of my sketches. Fitting the vision and idea.

Once I was sure of the idea, we then proceeded into “concept and massing studies” as shown below.
