@acidonthetongue It’s so interesting! Plus I feel it adds to Nicki’s feelings on Lestat later on. I can’t imagine what he was thinking when his (former) noble boyfriend ditched him, miraculously got rich, and started sending him money. There’s an underlying aspect of class in that.
I don’t wanna keep complaining, but I am also disappointed with the lack of the class conflict between Nicki and Lestat. I’m a massive dork so obviously I looked forward to the French Revolution bits and how that may affect their relationship, especially since the show is set-
@chequeredfuture Oh well when talking about Lestat’s privileges here I was mainly referring to what it was in the book, where nobility would’ve still had their at the time Lestat was in Paris as he is turned into 1779 and Nicki passes in 1786. I understand that in the show this would’ve had to-
@chequeredfuture changed as he has not noble privileges at that point and the prestige he has in the book even after being disowned would no longer exist due to the cultural climate. Obviously they couldn’t keep it the way it was in the book-
Privilege despite his family’s financial situation. In general Lestat being from a poor noble family and Nicki being from a rich working class family was so interesting and it was a dynamic that captured the state of France before the revolution very well.
@nickimander Yeah i figured it wasn’t happening but 💔 it’s so disappointing, especially since her narration via the letters offer a very solid look into Nicki’s vampiric life and the early theatre
I might be the only guy who feels this way but I actually have a massive attachment to Eleni as a character and I mourn her exclusion from the story. Eleni and Armand r like mama and papa for baby vampire Nicki TO ME
I’m actually missing this tiny part of Auvergne Nickistat specifically. Nicki running down to the inn upon hearing Lestat is there, all disheveled and flushed….most aegyo he’s ever had
The problem isn’t inherently that they ramped her abuse up, it’s that she’s now a shallow nothing character. There are abusers ALL OVER this show and they are still well written characters. Iwtv has a misogyny problem. You can hate Gabrielle and still admit that.
I think you can say Gabrielle is an abuser in the books while also acknowledging how this is an objectively bad adaptation of her that is also misogynistic in nature. It’s really baffling to see some people denying how bad this writing is
