Imperialists keep having to invent socialist massacres to deflect from the reality that capitalism is one continuous, world-spanning genocide.
We often hear about the 140 people who died trying to cross the Berlin Wall over a period spanning 28 years. But we never hear about the 9,900 people who die every single day because they lack access to healthcare — a direct outcome of imperialism's denial of sovereignty to the global periphery.
We often hear about some number of people who supposedly died at Tiananmen Square in 1989 — a highly-contested narrative. But we do not hear about the 1,545 people who die every single day because of Western sanctions — 38 million people in total over a fifty year period.
Given the sheer barbarism of the imperialist world system, we should marvel at how mild the actions of socialist and revolutionary projects are by the standards of the systemic and unrelenting violence they are forced to confront. And there is certainly no need for progressive forces to be apologetic or ashamed about these measures.
Every year, imperial propagandists ritualistically invoke this or that version of the 1989 events at Tiananmen Square to portray China as a murderous dictatorship. And every year, scores of people seek to rebut the claims by appeals to video footage and other evidence of what happened.
But I think we can be more forceful: Unlike in the Soviet Union, the Western-backed counterrevolution failed in China. Looking at the historic mortality crisis caused by capitalist restoration in Eastern Europe, this fact alone likely saved tens of millions of lives — and prevented imperialism from extinguishing the flame of socialism altogether.
From that perspective, the events of 1989 represent a major victory for socialism and the global working class. This, no doubt, is the primary source of the imperialists’ lingering outrage.
Marjane Satrapi made a career out of proliferating orientalist western caricatures of her own people. While Satrapi cashed in on racist campaigns thinly veiled by anti-patriarchal rhetoric calling for 'regime change' in Iran, she never once used her platform to speak out against the ongoing existential threats presented by Western powers against Palestinian, Lebanese, Iranian and ALL other Muslim women in West Asia. It's a fitting end for someone who remained blithely silent through three years of genocide in the region that raised her to literally die of grief over the loss of one gangly Swedish white guy.
Gene Sharp & Nancy Pelosi, busting her colour revolution cherry, were there.
Wikileaks cables showed no massacre in Tiananmen Sq as genuine grievances were exploited, but violent clashes in streets w armed protesters.
Guardian still building state's casus belli.
im gonna get like ten horrible sweaty guys in my mentions for saying this but not only is this believable it is a core point of the series up until episode 9
I think a giant imperial military blob with an unwieldy and overfunded warfare state making catastrophic tactical decisions by misusing expensive equipment in unsuitable conditions is among the most believable things in that entire movie
@syzygy19992000 Graham Platner has secured the Reason dot com vote; here's why this should energize socialists nation-wide (me for Jacobin after a tragic accident with a railroad spike)
The US has issued a travel warning to its citizens because of protests in Nanyuki against the planned establishment of an Ebola quarantine facility for US citizens in Kenya.
In an advisory dated 1 June 2026, the US Embassy in Nairobi warned that the demonstrations in Laikipia could spread to other towns, including Nairobi, in the coming days.
Of course, the US Embassy in Nairobi failed to mention why Kenyans are so angry, principally the planned introduction of a deadly virus into a country where there are currently no recorded Ebola cases.
Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has reportedly stated that under no circumstances can Ebola enter the United States, yet Washington appears content with the virus potentially being quarantined in Kenya instead.
Never overlook that zionist outfits like JVP have committed to convincing impressionable leftists and so-called liberals that jewish and zionist have nothing to do with one another as an easy alternative to the harder work of convincing their coreligionists of the same thing.
when the AI bubble pops and they bail these companies out they'll point to this as why it's bipartisan and we will be "able" to get tax advantaged savings accounts for token spend
NEW | Donald Trump to ABC News: A peace agreement with Iran could be even better than a military victory.
There was a little glitch today, the Iranians were upset about Israel's attacks on Lebanon.
So I spoke with Hezbollah and said no shooting, and I talked to Bibi and said no shooting, and they both stopped shooting each other.
I haven't agreed to the deal yet and I still need to get a few more points.
🔴On the North American Left’s Hectoring of Targeted States Struggling to Survive Washington and London’s Multifaceted Aggression and Imperial Designs
Over the last few weeks and months, we have seen a wave of commentary from highly visible accounts, media outlets, and political personalities condemning Venezuela, Cuba, and even Eritrea for pursuing pragmatic engagement and strategic maneuvering under conditions of sustained external pressure. Much of this commentary comes from voices based comfortably within the imperial core...voices that have contributed little in material or tangible terms to the liberation struggles of the Global South, yet still presume to lecture targeted states on how they should confront forces vastly more powerful than themselves.
This posture substitutes moral performance for material analysis. It ignores the concrete balance of forces, the pressures imposed by sanctions and diplomatic isolation, and the unequal structure of the world system. Rather than grappling with the difficult choices faced by states seeking to preserve sovereignty and social stability under hostile conditions, these commentators demand gestures of political martyrdom and reckless adventurism. Their prescriptions often amount to little more than a fantasy of heroic defeat an ultra-left or radical-liberal spectacle staged from the safety of the imperial core.
This is a principled cricism of @RevBlackNetwork@blkagendareport@freedomrideblog and other similar outlets who share their views/tweets the last few weeks.
