INVESTMENTS & JOBS
On Friday, my Government took another important step in strengthening the economic partnership between Trinidad and Tobago and the United States through the execution of three Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) with leading United States organisations.
These agreements establish frameworks for cooperation in large-scale data centre development, artificial intelligence infrastructure and the recommissioning of the iron and steel plant at Point Lisas for strategic metals production.
I thank the Honourable Sean Sobers, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, for signing these agreements on behalf of the Government of Trinidad and Tobago.
Through our first MOU with Ernst & Young LLP, we have established a framework for collaboration on the development of large-scale data centres and supporting infrastructure, leveraging EY's Energy to Intelligence (E2I) platform. Under this framework, EY intends to partner with third parties in the development of a 300 MW data centre in Trinidad and Tobago.
Our second agreement with Hummingbird AI Holdings LLC establishes a framework for preliminary cooperation, due diligence and coordination in relation to a proposed 150 MW artificial intelligence infrastructure and data centre facility, with the potential for long-term expansion to 500 MW. Subject to the successful completion of due diligence and the advancement of the project, initial commercial operations are targeted for the first quarter of 2028.
Our third MOU, signed with Pinnacle Steel and Vanadium Corporation, establishes a framework for further discussions and due diligence regarding the refurbishment, recommissioning and operation of the iron and steel plant at Point Lisas, which the company recently acquired.
Beyond steel production, this project presents Trinidad and Tobago with an opportunity to enter the global market for vanadium, a strategic metal used in aerospace and defence applications, including military aircraft. Should the project proceed, Trinidad and Tobago has the potential to supply a significant share - estimated at up to 50 per cent - of United States demand for this critical resource.
I also acknowledge the important role that will be played by the Point Lisas Industrial Port Development Corporation Limited (PLIPDECO), as landlord of the property and lands on which the plant is located, in advancing this initiative.
Taken together, and subject to these projects progressing beyond their current framework and due diligence stages, these initiatives represent the potential for investment exceeding US$5 billion over the coming years and are expected to generate more than 5,000 new skilled and semi-skilled jobs for our people.
These projects support our vision of transforming Trinidad and Tobago from an economy centred solely on energy molecules to one driven by innovation, technology, advanced manufacturing and high-value exports.
I extend my sincere thanks and appreciation to the Government of the United States for its role in facilitating these partnerships and helping to create new opportunities for growth, investment and prosperity for the people of Trinidad and Tobago.
Together, we are building the industries of the future and creating a stronger, more diversified economy for generations to come. ๐น๐น๐ค๐บ๐ธ

Today, I feel a deep sense of gratitude for the generations of Americans who have sustained our great nation for the past 250 years. America is a place of incredible freedom, spirit and opportunityโall thanks to those who came before us. May we honor their memory by fighting to make the next 250 years even better than the first. May God bless you all, and happy 4th of July ๐บ๐ธ
๐บ๏ฟฝ๏ฟฝ 250 years ago we declared independence from the British Empire. 125 years ago, they stole it backโand erased the evidence.
This July 4th, Trump is reclaiming what McKinley died for: the American System.
The US Constitution was the most important political innovation ever, but it's missing two important things:
1) A cap on the growth of government spending
2) A requirement for hard-backed currency
Without them, every democracy drifts toward more debt and eventual loss of reserve currency status (see The Changing World Order). The US is $39T in debt, and adding $1T roughly every 100 days, with interest payments now exceeding the defense budget. There is no mechanism to stop it.
Politicians get elected by promising free stuff using other people's money. Some voters get a benefit today, while the negative impact of the spending goes to future generations who can't vote yet. The incentive structure is broken.
What fixes it? A new constitution somewhere on the frontier (Mars, special economic zones, cyberspace), an amendment that aligns incentives in the current system (politically challenging), or hyper economic growth (AI + robotics + crypto) to outpace inflation.
