The “secret” of building a successful micro business
My daily reading of the $100 Startup for today covered some not-so-secrets of building a successful micro business.
Three things you need:
1. A product or service
2. A group of people willing to pay for it
3. A way to get paid
How to get the “perfect” product or service - Convergence
Look for something you’re passionate about and something others really care about. An intersection of this two give you a product or service that will most likely become a successful micro business.
When planning to start the new business, don’t focus on your exact strong skills alone. Explore other sub skills that you could transform into being useful in the new business. E.g teachers are good at teaching, but also good at communication, planning, coordination etc.
Looking at your skill set from this angle opens you to a world of possibilities.
Remember, to build a successful micro business one formula that works well is passion or skill + usefulness = success.
Building @labtracka and @easelabafrica was as a result of passion, skill and usefulness, a product worthy of solving major issues in the medical diagnostics industry in Africa and beyond.
Another business I intend to explore is furniture making, why? Because I love to create something useful and beautiful from nothing, esp with wood.
So if you’re struggling to figure out a good business, try the formula above.
And remember, you don’t need to plan everything, just start and stay consistent.
If you enjoy reading my thoughts, like or RT.
Thank you.
