Regulatory T cells are critical for fetal tolerance by the suppression of CD8 T cells which also predisposes to listeria infection. W/ the immunosuppressive actions of regularly T cells the placenta becomes a reservoir of Listeria when infected. Gabbe’s 8th edition. #pregnancy

The scrub gods (read: machine) blessed me with a really nice set today. They’re soft, the colors/fading match, and both top and bottom are true medium. They’re the type you take home and just wash and keep but I’m an honest man and will return them from whence they came.
Constant reading is insurance. It may prevent you from getting fleeced. It helps that medicine is a trade of lifelong learning but this approach should be employed broadly as a lifestyle.
@nateyblue Aha! Never mentioned a chill lifestyle nor 40hr work week. Some may envision 100hrs of OR time/wk.
At some arbitrary point after 1 year of bonafide clinical experience, a decision (w/ existential ramifications) must be made. That decision should be more deliberate! That’s all.
Existence precedes essence.
Medical students should imagine the practice type/work-life balance/patient population/salary/etc they want in their future and work backwards to find a specialty.
Less risky than waiting on a specialty choice to dawn on you.
@buist_rob I’m sure the right answer is in between the two extremes.
Personally, I feel that I got lucky pursuing a passion but others may not be as fortunate!
