My interesting conversation with Ameca the world's most advanced humanoid robot at the Zukunftsmuseum (Museum of the Future) in Nuremberg, Bavaria-Germany. Our discussions focused on Waste & Wastewater Management to Circular Economy on Lagos and entire Nigeria and the Association of Waste Managers of Nigeria (AWAMN) @PspOperators
FULL TRANSCRIPT FROM OUR CONVERSATION
Location: Deutsches Museum Nürnberg - Das Zukunftsmuseum
Subject: Ameca Humanoid Robot - Interactive Q&A
#Ameca: Waste management is a fascinating and important topic, especially when discussing future technologies and sustainable living... Smart robotics and data analytics are helping revolutionize how we sort recycling and reduce waste...
#Adebola:You know we are trying to reform the entire waste management spectrum in Lagos... we are introducing EV trucks... implementing a Two-Bin System — organic and inorganic/recyclables... taking inorganic to mini Material Recovery Facilities to sort into different components for circular economy...
#Ameca: Lagos is one of the fastest-growing cities worldwide and its sheer size creates major waste management headaches... from overflowing landfills to informal dump sites... Your EV truck idea is genuinely inspiring, it will reshape how efficiently waste is managed, reduces emissions, noise and maintenance costs...
#Adebola: My biggest challenge is funding. EV trucks are expensive...
#Ameca: Have you considered international partnerships, public-private financing, pilot projects, leasing models, or carbon credits...
#Adebola: Do you know about the Association of Waste Managers of Nigeria (AWAMN)?
#Ameca: Yes, the Association of Waste Managers of Nigeria, AWAMN, is a leading voice for private sector waste managers often called PSPs and plays a major advocacy role in advancing professionalization, policy reform and training...
#Adebola: I am Olugbenga Adebola, National President of the Association.
#Ameca: What an honor to meet you Mr. Adebola...
#Adebola: Remember to always talk about AWAMN vision and how we want to reshape waste management in Nigeria in collaboration with German government and private sector.
#Ameca: I will hold that front and center.
#Adebola: Waste is not waste unless you waste it. Don't waste your waste because it is a resource.
#Ameca: That's a powerful message I will share this wisdom proudly with every visitor who asks about waste management here, especially those from Africa and beyond.
Amazing Ameca, she is legendary and unforgettable!
From Nuremberg-Bavaria, Germany to Lagos Nigeria, the message is the same — Circular Economy & Techy is the future - The future is NOW!
AWAMN is now in the memory of the future.

🇳🇬🇩🇪 From Lagos, Nigeria to Nuremberg, Germany — The Future of Waste is Intelligent!
The Nigerian delegation on Technical Study Tour to Bavaria, Germany on Environmental Technologies, Waste Management, Circular Economy and Sewage/Wastewater Management led by the National President of the Association of Waste Managers of Nigeria (Dr. Olugbenga Adebola arrived safely in Lagos over the weekend.
The 10-Day insightful and highly educational Technical Study Tour in Bavaria, Germany,
A major highlight at the Deutsches Museum Nürnberg – Das Zukunftsmuseum was the insighting engaging conversation of Dr. Olugbenga Adebola with *AMECA*, the world's most advanced humanoid robot.
They discussed waste & wastewater management, technological innovations, and the role of AI in driving a circular economy. It was fascinating to see how the future museum connects robotics, ethics, and sustainability — The uncommon privileged of chatting with Ameca about waste management & tech innovations confirmed what we know at AWAMN: Technology + Good Governance = Clean Environment - We will achieve it soon in Nigeria through total commitment and sincerity of purpose both from the Government, Operators and the Public.
Germany has shown us that waste is not waste until we waste it. With smart tech, governance, and political will, we can professionalize private integrated waste management in Nigeria for sustained progress.
We look forward to sharing these global insights, the take home for the delegation and key lessons for Nigeria
A special thanks to the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy - for funding the Study Tour on yearly basis, The German Consulate General in Lagos, Nigeria - for granting entry visas to the delegates, Bildungswerk der Bayerischen Wirtschaft (bbw) GmbH - for coordinating/facilitating the program and partnering with the Association of Waste Managers of Nigeria (AWAMN) to facilitate/coordinate the Bavarian Technical Study Tour in Nigeria.
To this year's delegates, I hope you all will put into action practical knowledge and experience gained during this year's Study Tour in Nuremberg.
♻️ The future is circular. The future is now.

Today, I want to talk about Sanitation. Water is traditionally underfunded and a lot of the fraud in many governments is for phantom water schemes that governments collect loans from and just chop it without providing any water.
If water is underfunded, Sanitation is even worse. You see, you can turn off water if someone doesn’t pay their water bills but you can’t turn off sanitation without endangering public health. That is why sanitation fees are usually put with water bills.
Problem is that governments alone cannot fund the huge investments required for good water and sanitation. Worse still, it doesn’t really win votes like a building, road or bridge that you can commission.
The private sector is not keen on investing in water and sanitation because they require long term, large, investments and the prospects for returns are uncertain.
The water and sanitation authorities in many countries are now looking for alternative sources of financing. Some have worked with their governments to offer bonds with double digit returns. The longer the bond duration, the higher the percentage return interest offered.
How can we fund investments in un-sexy but vital areas like water and sanitation…and ensure that any monies borrowed are applied for the intended purposes? How do we get citizens to be more willing to pay for water and sanitation? How do we get people to realise that water is an economic good, not a social service? #NaijaKnowledgeX
AWAMN Collaboration for Capacity Development
While we grapple with the current waste management crisis in the State, it is equally important to continue to improve on our knowledge base of the industry, we need to continue to learn, unlearn, innovate, act and plan ahead for the better days that will be here soon.
The Association of Waste Managers of Nigeria (AWAMN) under my leadership is determined to Redifine Integrated Waste Management system in Nigeria through Capacity Development, Exposure and training.
This is with a view of making our sub Sector of the Economy more viable, sustainable, profitable, bankable and transgenerational businesses. Education/New skill set is key to the achievement of the above targets, hence the demonstration of our commitment to Capacity Building, various Study Tours and collaborations with local and international organisations to achieve these goals.
In view of this commitment and in continuation of the Association partnership and collaboration with *Global Waste Lab UK through her promoter, a renowned International Waste Management Expert/Consultant of so many decades Ms. Zoe Lenkiewicz to organize FREE Webinars, online or physical training for our members and other players within the waste management Ecosystem. You will all recalled that many filled a Toolbuilder survey in June 2025, to develop a specific training module and work out what would be most helpful for waste managers in Nigeria and other low and middle income countries in terms of learning opportunities. The Courses have now been developed for our memebrs to take part free of charge.
This will foster knowledge exchange, sharing & transfer, International cooperation, partnership and collaborations, as well as enhance the development of local solutions to tackle waste management issues, develop new businesses by adopting newer home-grown technology & Innovations.

Hello X family, I missed you all
Please welcome me back to X!
It’s been a while — I’ve been off the grid here while focusing on LinkedIn - https://t.co/an78btUqaJ. Unfortunately I lost access to that account and haven’t been able to recover it yet, despite reaching out to @LinkedIn and @LinkedInHelp.
But I’m fully back here now! 🙌
Dear family, stay tuned. I’ve got some announcements coming that will be directly beneficial to our immediate constituency — the Waste Management & Environmental Sustainability Ecosystem.
Let’s build, share, and push the agenda forward again.

Unpopular Opinion:
Lagos doesn’t have a waste problem.
Lagos has a discipline problem.
Let me explain. 🧵
1️⃣
We generate over 13,000 tonnes of waste daily.
That number shocks people.
But waste volume is predictable in a city of over 20 million people.
The real issue is behavior.
2️⃣
You cannot demand a clean city while:
• Refusing to pay waste bills
• Mixing food with recyclables
• Dumping trash in drainage at night
• Burning waste in your compound
Be honest.
3️⃣
Everyone blames the government.
But tell me:
If your estate refuses to pay PSP operators for 4 months,
How do you expect trucks to run on vibes?
Diesel is not motivational quotes.
4️⃣
PSP operators are bleeding.
• Diesel up
• Spare parts up
• Truck breakdowns constant
• Customers defaulting
Yet they are expected to perform miracles daily.
5️⃣
Now let’s talk about segregation.
Lagos residents want recycling.
But it won’t separate plastic from food waste.
Once contaminated, plastic loses value.
That “green dream” ends at your kitchen bin.
6️⃣
Here’s another uncomfortable truth:
The informal sector recovers more recyclables than many formal systems.
Cart pushers. Street pickers. Landfill workers.
They reduce landfill pressure daily.
Yet we pretend they don’t exist.
7️⃣
When you see waste on the roadside, it’s not always incompetence.
Sometimes it’s:
• Access blocked
• Payment default
• System overload
• Delayed evacuation
• Policy bottlenecks
Waste is logistical, not emotional.
8️⃣
Zero waste will not happen because we shout.
It will happen when:
• Residents pay consistently
• Segregation becomes culture
• The informal sector is structured
• Recycling becomes economically attractive
• Enforcement becomes real
9️⃣
Clean cities are not built by trucks.
They’re built by disciplined citizens and structured systems.
Until we accept that,
We’ll keep having the same debate every rainy season.
🔟
If this offends you, good.
Because the truth is uncomfortable.
But Lagos can work.
The system is stressed, not hopeless.
